Which wire to make the connection for coolant fan work?

Post by ej22t »

Hi everyone, hows going!
I am looking for some wiring help here hope someone could show me the right direction of this mod.
I am looking for a way to make a switch for the radiator fan.
I have problem of the coolant temp. sensor , when the engine running hot it makes the car goes boost cut and also make the car hard to drive. So I just bypass the coolant temp. sensor to make the computer think its running cold so it make the car driviable but the other problem comes like when the car was stuck in the traffic the coolant temp. goes high since no direct flow to make the rad get cool.
Thats why I have to find a way to make a switch for the rad.
Please show me which wire or how to make a switch for operate the coolant fan

Thanks for help!

I used a relay to run power directly from the battery to the fans. I reccomend you do the same.

Go to your local autoparts store and pick up a heavy duty double throw bosh type relay. Also pick up some 8 and 16guage wire and the matching terminals (yellow) to attach the wire to the relay.

When you have that write back and I will post up the wiring diagram.

Don't wire your fans to a switch as you will be putting too much strain on your wiring. If you do it my way (the right way) you will only have to run 1 wire into the cab and if something goes wrong the relay will shut off...intstead of melting the wire and possibly causing an electric fire.

There is a switched wire that goes to the ignitor that you could use but you would have to know how to use a test light and feel confident about your electrical wiring. If not I will have you run the 16 guage to an ignition switched fuse in the cab. There might even be one under the hood but you would have to check.

Why not fix the problem and NOT the symptom, and replace the damn coolant temp sensor? It's $20 USD.

If you ground pin D17 on your ECU it will turn on your fans and you can just wire in a simple switch to do this rather than putting in your own relays. This is how my fans operate half of the time, the other half I think my ECU decides to turn it on (something with the ECU isn't quite right).

Do a search on my EJ22E swap and it has the details of this.
