No power increase with turbo.?

That spinning thing that makes all of the cool noises. OE and Aftermarket.

No power increase with turbo.?

Post by turbonator »

I don't feel any difference @ 3 to 4000 rpm when the boost should be kicking in. It's not hesitating or lagging. It accelerates really smooth and the turbo sounds good but just doesn't do much.

Is it not getting enough fuel? old injectors. ?

I've changed the plugs but not the wires. I did the fuel filter K&N airfilter and I think thats all I've done in the last 3 years I've owned it.

I've been getting 400km's per tank of gas for the last 2 years also.?

how about a stock wrx turbo and saab intercooler setep? this is whats in the new ss I just bought. I was going to post the exact same problem but after reading this I figured I'd add to this one. my car makes a ton of noise but thats about it. not really sure whats going on. seems like it would be faster if it was an n/a.

do either of you have a boost gauge? If you have a boost leak the turbo will spool up like normal but you(and the engine) wont see the boost. thus no power.

just a thought

yes I have a boost gage thats plumbed into the intake manifold. I get around 8 psi at full boost. not really sure whats going on. I have noticed that the saab setup is very "hokey". some hoses dont have clamps on them at all. I need to investigate this further but its been very cold here.

How much would a cheap boost gauge cost.? how hard to install.?

you cant go too cheap or it wont be accurate. expect to pay 50-75 for a decent gage. its easy to install also you can find tons of pics on here showing you where to "T" into the manifold.

8 psi is about right. These cars aren't tuned to have a lot of boost. Try getting a manual boost controller and upping the boost to 12psi. You could go as far as 14 or so on that WRX turbo (which is no larger than the stock one, just more modern in it's bearing design) but you will need a fuel cut defender for anything over 12.5psi...
