Never looked at the visor before.
I just recently looked at the visor in my Legacy and read it for the first time. It says that initially you are supposed to change the oil at 3k miles or 3 months, and then afterwards every 7.5k miles or 7 and a half months. My question is does anybody follow this or do you change it every 3k anyways?

I saw that ages ago but still usually change my oil around the 3k mark. I'm just not real anal about it. If I go 1k over I don't freak out and feel like I'm abusing Subarina or anything. =)

the engine wasn't built and designed to use synthetic oil was it?
It was designed for regular SAE oils.
Use proper gas (ie if you have a turbo use premium) use the proper oil weight 10w-30, and change it and the filter, every
3 thousand.
simple, and not that expensive to do.

The last time I used Synthetic oil in my car it dissapeared faster than my penis in cold water.
I have heard that if you start your vehicles life with synth then you can run it the life of said engine but if you add it after you aquire many miles, it simply isn't a good idea.

when I meet my daughter mom she had this older honda accord that was running like ass. She told me she had owned it for two years and have never changed the oil. I thought she was joking so we went to wal-mart later that smae day and when they pulled the plug it was like black water pouring out. The guy changing the oil couldn't stop laughing. I then explained to him when the last time the oil was changed.
I slept on the couch that night but at least I laughed myself to sleep.
For some reason my last legacy would destroy oil in less than 2K miles.

According to the service writers at the subaru dealership i used to work at, car manufacturers are pressured into suggesting longer maintinence intervals than would normally be decided upon by the us gov. I can't remember why though, something about lower cost of ownership

Since car companies are federally required to post estimated service prices annually, increasing service intervals lowers that number.
Plus, the average person buys a new car every 5 years. They don't really care anymore about the car lasting 500,000 miles, in favor of being low-cost for those 5 years, and hopefully use that in convincing the person to buy another of that same brand of vehicle.

i tired it. my oil was unbeliveably clean when it came out. little over 8k when i changed it. that includes a few long distance trips with hard racing in between each of thoes trips.
it was pretty neat. i wouldnt do it all the time though.
