What I thought was a broken flexplate/driveplate on my 94 Turbo Touring wagon automatic ended up being that, along with something MUCH worse...that being my torque converter front center pilot shaft is actually spun off the torque converter, and that pilot shaft has welded itself into the inside end of the CRANKSHAFT. It is real bad. This might mean the end of me Touring wagon. We started pulling the engine after supper tonight about 6:30 pm, and got the whole thing out and flexplate mount bolts impacted out by 10:20Pm. we were taking our time though.
I will post pictures tomorrow, didn't have my camera at my dads garage tonight. He is going to TRY and drill out the center of what is left of the TC pilot shaft and use a slide hammer pull and a hook on the end to see if he can break it loose without damaging the crankshaft. If he has success, then it is only marginally bad.
I would bet I am the first one to have this problem....of a torque converter pilot shaft breaking off after the driveplate has broken.
If my dad can't drill it out without damaging the crank, then, well, then, um, I guess it is time to make some decisions.
I have my White SS sedan up on jackstands next to my touring wagon. The SS is getting a tranny transplant, the one that was in it was toasted(i bought it toasted that way)-nothing smells nuked quite like burnt tranny fluid.
