Cruise control...click...click...click...still nothing!

I did a search and found nothing to the effect of what my cruise is doing.

I hit the button on the dash...click! Hit it again...click! (from the CC relay I presume. Pass side kick panel)

Needless to say it just don't work.

Any suggestions? Bad relay? Bad CC unit? Bad Vacum pump?

lamp burned out in the switch

have you tried to use it after pushing the button once
after starting

~35 MPH or faster and try the stalk

The light was coming on but only for the duration of the button press.

Out of curiosity I pushed it a few minutes ago while I Was out getting dinner and wouldn't you know it....IT STAYED ON!!

there's a plastic catch inside the switch that holds the button down when you push it in.

yours is worn out, it's catching sometimes, but not every time. I've had it happen on various vehicles which use similar push-lock switches.

replacing the switch assembly is the best option.

The cruise control switch doesn't have a latch in it; it's a momentary switch. I'm using a stock cruise button for my launch control.

So it was something elses. I will check it out some more tommorow and let you guys know what I find.

vgr3 is correct, as usual, so it sounds like it could be a latching semiconductor in the cruise control brain.

If this is the case and you do not want to change the brain....
the defrost switch beside the cruise button is a latching type switch

you could bone yard a defrost switch and make the substitution

the wiring is not that hard to decipher

Guess I never paid that much attention when pushing the button.

I almost fall on the floor laughing when you guys just tell me to go to my local JY and grab this piece or that piece...

There are no legacys or Subarus for that matter in my area. I would have to drive about 2 hours to find one. (By subyluvr @ J&B)

It's more complex than a latching semiconductor device. The cruise computer is deciding to abort cruise for some reason..

Any chance you could get your hands on a Select Monitor? It could tell you why.

I got up on the highway today and fliped on the cruise....was going good for a few miles. Then it just turned off. The light was still on the dash but it wasn't physically on. I hit the button on the steering wheel and it came back on. I was at my exit so I didn't get to test it much after that.

This may be as simple as a leak in the vacuum line that goes from the pump (on the inboard side of the passenger side strut tower) to the actuator (on the firewall). First check the rubber hoses on each end; the hard pipe between them is probably okay.

I don't have a wiring diagram so this statement could be moot.

Does the cruise have an independent brake pedal switch and or
could it need adjusted.

The older L-series had a habit of shutting off like this
due to an improperly adjusted brake pedal cancel switch.

It does have its own switch contacts but they are part of the brake light switch. I don't recall them being adjustable separately, but it's a good thought and it couldn't hurt to give it a look.
