Power steering pump cross-compatability: Update
I tried a 96 pump today. NO GO. The snout of the pump is a little bit fatter than mine and won't fit into the U shape of the bracket. Furthermore the bolt pattern looks like it's just a smidge too wide as well. So... PISS. The yard didn't have the bracket off the 96 anymore either or I would have tried that. Luckily I was able to source a pump "only" an hour away so I'm going to go get that tomorrow and try again. apparently the serial number for the pumps changed somewhere between 95 and 96 so I suspect 90-95 would be fine.

All the first gen legacy pumps will work. the 95-99 may work....but you'd probably want to use your 94 pump's resevoir.
No need to worry about bleeding. Just hook it up.

sweet. thanks.
now I need to examine the car in daylight to see if it's actually the pump or a line blew up or something. I wasn't in the car when the steering stopped being assisted but there supposedly were no strange noises or anything. it just stopped.

CORKSOAKER!
I took a look at the car in the daylight and it's losing fluid somewhere down underneath near the centre of the engine bay. That makes me think steering rack (?) I'm going to go ahead and guess that a rack would be plenty more expensive and loads harder to instal than a pump. BAH!

both cars for me had leaks on the line
Both my 93 SS and my 94 Touring (both are turbo cars) had the power steering leaks in the line(s), where it goes over the crossmember, near the turbo side.
My dad was lucky enough to get 2 complete, non-leaking lines for each car at the local J/Y for about 7 bucks each. they were off of n/a cars, and had a slightly different bend to them, but were made to work rather easliy by rebending a couple areas. Now neither of my power steering leaks.
When you have leaking lines, you can tell by the drips everywhere you park. Also, when the lines are removed, a bad line will have lots of free rotation, whereas a good line will be nice and tight when you try and turn it at the various connections and bends.
easy and cheap, and I got both mine used and they dont leak.

well well well... it's a good thing I was asking about PS pumps earlier. Looks like mine quit on the legacy this time. It made some gnarly belt-squeely noises and then started pissing fluiding out of the bottom of the pump somewhere. I'm going to go look for a replacement in the yards around here today.
