Factory JDM Legacy Water-Air I/C info
I've have taken a few mesurements and found out some interesting info about the factory water-air intercooling system.
The water pump that is used is an impeller-type which I have tested to flow roughly 15L/min, the factory ecu runs it at two speeds using a temperature sensor.
The radiator core size is 450x350x30mm.
I'm flushing my system this weekend, so I'll let you know the water capacity after then.
As for how much hp this system can take?
I know a lot of guys running vf24's, vf23's and vf22's at 17psi without a problem. One person in fact has nearly clicked over 300,000km on his odometer (170,000km on his vf23).
I think that is more than enough hp for most of us, but it shows how good the i/c system is in a street application and this is even before we start trying to add resoivours, a bigger radiator, a bigger water pump, etc.
I hope this answers a few Q's which I see repeatedly in this forum.

its good for 300hp @ wheels, there are bigger pumps and bigger front heat exchangers available for it also, all you had to do was ask me! thats why i was saying don't bother going for a top mount interheater, because you can get parts that are made for the car, that are straight bolt ups without fabrication!
the two speeds can also be overridden so that it runs on the 'fast' setting all the time, it is not only temperature driven it is also throttle driven, as i have found out, the headlights dim upon boost onset, which happens in every RS with factory computer

I would second that request. What would the cost be?

First, what are the dimensions of the upgraded heat exchanger? You most likely could a similar size or bigger for really cheap (<$20) here. Some more modification to put it in, but it would beat the cost of shipping from down under.

I think you are confused. They are both heat exchangers. The ac condenser is a heat exchanger, the transmission cooler is a heat exchanger. The questions are regarding:
"with a front heat exchanger"
"bigger front heat exchangers"
I still say many better units can be found local. Heck water cooled motorcycles have some killer units.
