Damn...I am fat!
I have that not so fresh feeling lately. Not because I need to douche...because of KFC, BK, The Bell, Wendy's, and every sub shop in my area. DAMN YOU CHEESESTEAKS!! DAMN YOU TO HELL!!
Has anyone on here ever dieted and had positive results? I tried the low carb thing but it didn't jive too well with my migraines.
I exercise a bunch at work but I feel I am not eating right. I am going to cut out the fast food....okay...scale down the fastfood but I want to know what will work to lose weight.
Pills? Health shakes? The zone?

I worked with a company that was funded by Dr. Barry Sears. In terms of straight dietary standards it is the most balanced of the three most popular diets. I looked at the serving sizes and decided it was way too little food for me.
Try vitamins too, combine with the right lifestyle that'll help you out of the doldrums.
I have been feeling the same thing lately. I think it has as much to do with the weather and general apathy as to where I am in my life right now, as does my diet and general lack of activity. Just gotta get the motivation to go to the gym.

Don't eat as much red meat, its pretty hard on your system. I eat pretty healthy, lots of fresh vegetables and mostly chicken and pasta products. Also try to eat fewer meals a day. Although i'm about the opposite of your problem. I've been trying to eat as unhealthy as possible and drink lots of beer. I'm a fan of corona.

I eat mostly chicken but every now and then I will eat a big juicy steak. I am one of those "go all out" people.dzx wrote: I eat pretty healthy, lots of fresh vegetables and mostly chicken and pasta products.
I avoid pasta as much as possible because it's "nappy time" food. Back when I was a pro-runner I used to eat a lot of pasta because I burned it well. These days a bowl of pasta makes me feel icky.

its all about the exercise, I play lacrosse for the University of Washington and man, I eat something like 4000 calories a day, but I'm currently starting to lose weight.
but then again, our team has a professional trainer do "core conditioning" two days a week, for an hour and a half a day, which pretty much equals murder

i lost 40 pounds.
working out at work don't count.
i run three miles everyother day, even when I was a house framer.
you gotta work out for longer than half an hour, until then you're just burning the sugars out of your blood and liver.
all the gimmicks don't do anything but sell videos and books.
instead of fastfood, fill up on vegetables everyonce in a while. Broccoli, spinach, brussels sprouts, asparagus.... it won't kill you.
walk.

Seriously, I think I may have had my first heart attack/ stroke down in Mexico. You can have really "light" ones and not even know it. I may be feeling the repercussions right now in my left side. I am going to go to the doctor (no insurance) if my left side doesnt feel any better soon. Its not like its paralyzed, but just really weak in the arm muscles and back.
I am in decent "work" shape, but have put on 20 lbs or so in the last two years (5'10", 170lbs now). At age 38-39, I got to admit I am no kid anymore. Crap......

balanced diet and excersize. cutting calories drastically will have a negative effect on your metabolism. stop snacking, or change what snacks you eat. baby carrots are good, raisins maybe, an apple.
excersize is most important, and the most effective is to find something you enjoy doing such as basketball or whatever. bike riding is good for fat people because it is easy on the joints and fun.

I avoid fast food as much as possible. Have you seen the movie Supersize Me?
I walk alot at school and I run around like a a madman at work (Old Chicago). I've yet to gain any weight since I started woring there in May, but I think thats because I drink alot less due to working so late on the weekends.
I'm 5'8" and a 1/4 and fluctuate from 175-185. I till have a decent build since I played hockey for 14 years. I'm shure all of this will cast up to me sooner or later. My dad lost 20 lbs just by scaling his drinking back. I think his girlfriend might have something to do with that.

"Scale down?" Don't scale down the fast food. Just quit eating it! It's common sense... You will survive without the grease. Believe me.
You may well find that you don't need an all-out diet. Just eating a little less recklessly can make a big difference. I'm speaking from experience. I don't weigh myself, but my waist size has gone down something like six to eight inches over the past year. I haven't been working out or dieting really... I'm just a little less dumb than I used to be about what I eat.
Another thing that affects it a lot is your emotional state. I credit my weight loss not only to being a little more careful with what I eat but also to the fact that I'm much happier in general now than I used to be. This has affected my health in a positive way. If you're having trouble coping with stress -- and I don't know whether you are or not -- I would advise you to pursue options to help. Counseling can be huge.

I eat one to two meals a day only, almost all meat (though I'm adding more vegetables now that I'm making money ... I don't HAVE to eat just hotdogs anymore. Now I eat them because I like to ... and gourmet ones now), only fast food in emergency, never buy snacks or junk food, and cut away all the fat from meat. When I eat out at work sites I try to have turkey or ham and cheese with lettuce, hots, and oil. Lots of olive oil and tea at home. I work outdoors so I'm not in a stagnant office, but I otherwise don't work out (sometimes I need to carry heavy shit up mountains and 8 flights of stairs, though). I can't get over 160 for the life of me.

Biggest thing you can do to boost your metabolism is eat breakfast. You HAVE to eat breakfast. As the name says.....you are "breaking a fast". Your metabolism doesn't get going until it gets some sort of food. You don't need to eat a big breakfast, just something. I typically will have a protein shake, milk & nutragrain bar. Even cereal works.
As it's been mentioned, cut the snacks & junk food. Don't cut your food intake, because your body will go into conservation mode and store fat. Just eat better foods and smaller more frequent meals throughout the day.
Lastly, you gotta exercise, lift weights, run, bike, preferably a combo of aerobic & anaerobic. ie. strength training and cardo.
If you do that and stick with it, it'll work.

You're like me. I stay pretty consistent around 145-150. You probably have a pretty high metabolism. I would assume you want to gain muscle....and not fat.0perose wrote:maybe I should start my own thread for this, but I'm too skinny... been gaining muscle mass lately, but I'm 5'11" and weigh 145 soaking wet... no matter what I eat I don't gain weight what diet should I use? ben&jerry's? little debby? the ronald mcdonald fun zone?
Protein supplements and strength training (high weight, low reps) will help. Probably the best or one of the best proteins out there is Muscle milk. This is the cheapest place I found to get it.
http://ww1.betterbodz.com/cgi-bin/shop/item/EU400020
My brother wasn't seeing the size increase he wanted with muscle milk and started taking creotein supplements/shake. While it's not the very best for your body, since it makes its own creotein, it will help you get bigger. Once you get to the size you want, you should probably stop taking it, and switch back to just protein.
I just started using the muscle milk, and do notice a difference compared to the old whey protein I was using.
Other thing to note, being bigger doesn't always mean stronger. Denser muscle tissues are stronger. In my case, I am slightly stronger then my brother (or at least the last time I saw him this past summer) but he's bigger.
Just some food for thought.

I agree with the whole eating breakfast idea. It's a jump start to your system. But, you shouldn't gorge on potatoes. I would second Vikash's ideas too. Eating right is a change in lifestyle that should be permanent. A couple things I've done to lose 25 pounds it to stop eating so many carbs and sugars. No cola, no sugary snacksk, cupcakes etc. Maybe not none but limit it to a special treat once in a while. Eating lots of veggies, especially broccoli and brussel sprouts is good. Don't eat after 7 or 8 at night or if you do make sure it's something that's very easily digestable. Don't eat between meals. Eat only until you're no longer hungry instead of gorging until you're full. That way, your stomach will shrink to accomodate the smaller meal sizes. Moderate exercise and a good amount of sleep go a long way too. Don't forget that while you're sleeping you're not eating. That's all I have.

I'm glad I started this thread. You guys have been a big help.
1. I don't drink, smoke, or do drugs
2. I don't eat breakfast because I am usually never up that early. Not because I am lazy, mostly because I work overnight.
3. I have cut out the pasta all together. I don't like all the carbs.
4. I am only going to eat fast food from now on if I really have to. Even then I will eat something healty like a salad or a sub sandwhich from subway.
5. I am the anti-snack guy. I don't like chocolate. I don't like candy. I don't do chips and when I do they are tortilla chips with salsa.
6. I am 6'2", 280lbs. Don't get me wrong ...I have muscles but I need to get rid of that large stomach muscle.
Thanks again guys.

Just trying helps if you have any kind of will power to exert. I'm at 6' even, 198 lbs. I used to weigh 225 and I was getting pissed off. I went down to 185 and stabalized at 195-8. I'm trying to psych myself up to get to around 175 - 180. That would be ideal, easy on my back and knees.
