Well, I had a fun time experimenting with a 93 AWD Impreza TCU. It was real fun, because it wouldn't shift up until 6.5k, and the manual button did jack shit. Still no power light action when I floor it. I'm starting to think that it's because the voltage coming from the TPS is switched from the Impreza to the Legacy. Like the Impreza TPS's voltage at WOT is the same as the Legacy's at closed throttle, and vice versa. Still, I had a real fun time rewiring the plugs for the original TCU

Something I was wondering though after this is, will the EJ18 develop any problems if I rev it to 6.5k like that, since the redline for the Impreza is 6k? I've heard that it can take up to something like 7k, but I just want to be sure.

I have a 91 SS with same 4EAT tranny symptoms...but have a plan to use the engine in another vehicle later...so don't want to spend a lot of money to have this one driveable ...just temporarily.

Following your efforts closely....since I have a couple of 4EATs around.

One is out of a 96 OBW available...assume it's 4.11. but don't have it's matching rear diff. Not hard to get one though. Have the original TCU for it.

Also have a 4EAT out of a 2000 OBW .. also have the rear diff and TCU for this car.

Also have a 5MT coming from a 2000 Impreza RS...but can sell this setup to an SVX owner for more than I paid for the 91 SS ....so hate to give up that sale. The auto's aren't worth as much so prefer to use one of those.

Any advice....I expect the wiring plugs/pinouts for the 2000 model one will be different. ????

Yeah, the 2000 tranny is going to most likely be the phase 2 4EAT, and will have a different electrical connector for one of the two plugs.

FWIW, I put a '97 Impreza AWD 4EAT into a '92 Legacy SS. I swapped the front diff so it would have the 3.90 ratio but changed nothing electrical, just pluged in the two connecters and it worked perfectly. All the programing is in the TCU, the trannies are all the same.

Yeah, when I did my swap, I took the EJ18 and the tranny already attached to it. The '97 Impreza AWD 4EAT would have already been attached to an EJ22. I dont know if that had any bearing on it's working properly whereas mine doesn't. I mean the EJ18 TCU is different from the EJ22 TCU, even in the Impreza's
