1994 Touring Wagon repair week of 1/21/06.
I just did a whole lot of repairs due to broken drive plate: see list
New rear camshaft seal passenger side
New rear main seal
New turbo oil tube lower outlet hose
New speedometer drive gear big donut
New speedometer driven gear smaller
New side retainer Oring for tranny right side after replacing speedo gears.
New valve cover bolts seals/grommits passenger side
New o-rings for service access for piston wristpins both sides
New camshaft support o-rings passenger side rear.
New knock sensor
Used power steering hoses -both hoses
New torque converter front shaft o-ring
Replaced torque converter with original from the car. (pilot shaft broke when my drive plate break)
New Drive Plate (=flexplate for automatic) previos was BROKEN-very bad, whole reason for this list of repairs..
Re-tapped/ rethreaded several bolts, including one downpipe, one for power steering pump
Replaced a couple vacuum hoses that we broke, they are like glass, very old fragile all over-was very careful and lucky to only have 2 that broke.
Oil and filter change- Castrol 10w-30, oem subaru oil filter.
New gear oil- valvoline 80w90
Tranny fluid add after change of Torque converter-Valvoline Dextron Mercon III (fluid was only 6 months old, no need complete flush, did not mix with existing brand fluid, valvoline ATF all the way). .
Now my speedo works, cruise works again. No check engine for VSS and no check engine for knock sensor. I am taking it easy while the ECU is in learning mode again.
Wow. Have you spun all 4 wheels lately?......

You are a glutton for punishment my friend. But I am sure it was nowhere near as painful as your original tranny replacement. Learning has been shown...

yep, now that I have help from my Dad and his tools(he was a 41 year mechanic who is now retired) everything is getting done.
-matt, it was you that showed me how easy it is to pull out an engine in one of these, thanks.
The SS is getting pretty much the same listing of seals, and the original tranny from my Touring wagon is ready to go into the SS.
I will soon have 2 legacies that won't have any leaks. lol But I have learned, and my next Legacy / Impreza will be a 5spd instead, these damn autos are crap.
