Will a STi turbo fit a EJ20G?

Post by livestrong14 »

I was just wondering if a STi vf-34 turbocharger would fit a JDM EJ20G? Would the sti's injectors fit aswell? what injectors does the STi use?
Thanks, Devan

this is a question for the "turbo" section but...

short answer
any turbo will fit any car, if you want to mod. it enough.
But i do think there are others here who have used a vf34 on something, not sure if it was a 2.0 or a 2.2

The ones on here have used it on the 2.2. I think.

Is the jdm EJ20G engine the one that came in the liberty?

I think that the liberty had a 90 degree inlet so if the intake manifold is like the one on the liberty, I think the turbo would need to have a 90 degree inlet added to it. The wrx manifold is tall enough that the intake goes underneath it rather than having a 90 degree inlet to clear it.

Get a TD05-16g Devan...you would have much less of a time fitting it in there, and it would still make hella great power!

As has been suggested, the only thing you need to do to make it fit is to install a 90 degree inlet bend on it. You should be able to take the one off your current turbo and have a machine shop do the work to make it bolt up and seal properly. Just give them both turbos and tell them what you need.

If you are keeping your boost at 12-13psi, you will be fine with your stock injectors. Beyond that you will most likely want to upgrade. STi injectors are 550cc's, but they are also a top feed design that will not fit in your rails. You will have to buy in the aftermarket to get injectors those size to fit your rails. MRT carries a couple of options, going all the way up to the 800cc range. They get real expensive real quick...

The TD05 came on the JDM Early WRX's...so the WRX's that had the EJ20G...'93 to...prolly '96 or so...

Prices range on them a lot...but I know Laurel got hers for like $200.

The VF34 isn't a bad idea...but will require more time and $$ to fit...plus they are megabucks (like $600).

The VF8 I have in my car is a good alternative too...a VF8+17psi would be a fun combo.

So I should just keep the turbo that came on the ej20g and up the boost? sound good to me, should I still do injectors and fuel pump?

Fuel pump isn't a bad idea since the walbro isn't horribly expensive and is easy to replace.

A fuel pump and a rising rate fuel pressure regulator should do the job nicely.

btw...I still wanna buy your EJ22T when you change motors :-D

livestrong,
is you swap enigine from a manual or an auto?

If it's an auto, it's a teeny little turbo similar to our USDM turbos. Only if it is a manual will it have the vf-8 or a vf-12...

Ehh...prolly because people who drive automatics can't handle power...

j/k mang...:-D

I am not really sure why the turbo is smaller...

At any rate, if you want a VF8 and can't find one around here, I will see about getting you one from New Zealand.

EJ20G comes stock with a vf10, iirc.

The sti turbo is a vf39, and while its an incredible turbo for our cars, you will need to route some lines UNDER the intake manifold. Its doable, and it does, but its not the easiest or most efficient. Nick's right about a 16g td05h --it flows plenty of air, and stays within its effciency range nicely.
What you need to focus on is your driving skillz. "Its not the car, its the driver".
