True, less than with defroster settings. But I've found turning up the fan gives adequate airflow for most defrosting.

You've found that blowing air towards your feet does an adequate job of defrosting the windshield and windows?

Owner's manual 4-3 "HEAT: The air conditioning system does not operate. Air flows toward the floor and partially to the windshield."

If I need more defrost power I use "DEF," I just don't like how the engine idles with the AC on.

The climate in Western Washington must be very different from any place I've ever lived.

It's like Io.

But really, this is a bit of a thread jack we've got here. I understand it's more effective to use the DEF settings.

So my compressor's been broken for about a year now. But my defrost works like a monster. What specfically am I losing when I delete the A/C re: the defrost? The heat exchanger thingy gets deleted and that f-ups things up? (Apologies, I don't have Chilton's in front of me...)

Yeah, this is a bit of a threadjacking... anyway...

Adam West, are you going to actually try removing the evaporator core? Unless you're super concerned about eliminating every last pound of extra weight, I wouldn't bother. Just remove the underhood stuff. Your defrost will continue to work as it does today -- working off of fresh air and heat rather than fresh air, heat, and dehumidification.
