Strut Mount replacement
My front right strut mount is pretty much shot and has to be replaced. I wanted to wait until I had the cash to replace the struts aand mounts at the same time, but the banging and shaking of the mount is bad. My question is, can the mount be changed without uncompressing the spring on the strut?

You'll have to use a set of spring compressors to replace the mount. You can compress the spring in place, replace the strut top, and then uncompress it.
Also remember that you're only supposed to use the locknut at the top of the strut once and replace it every time you remove it.

Ok, so I need to get a spring compressor (have to replace the struts in the near future) and a new nut in addition to the mounts. Just wasn't sure if the mount was part of the strut assembly, or if it could be changed separately. Thanks!

Yeah,
We try to keep people from using pics in their sigs because the server this board is on is being graciously given to us, so keeping bandwidth to a minimum is the least we can do, plus pics in threads can cause slower loading for those on dial up.

Well if you've got two extra, I'll take 'em! drop me a line at NJitzul@AOL.com and we can talk price. And yes, they're definitely shot. You can shake the right strut around when it's on a lift, and the nut is tight. What can I say, I'm hard on suspenders in this car

The strut tops are from my 90 wagon. They are actually pretty new, the car came with air suspension originally. It was converted to standard suspension. I used these with a set of GR2.
Later I upgraded to AGX with STI mounts and these are now left over. I might be able to find the top caps (for dust prevention) but at the moment consider them to be not included.
If absolutely necessary I can also include some strut top nuts.
Are there any other parts you need? I literally have every single part from the car extra at least once (some I plan to keep though, or are broken). I already had a garage full of parts, then I purchased a turbo sedan for even more parts
BTW, I have an 85 CB450SC. Purchased some NOS turn signals from ebay and found out they are for your model of cb450. Would you have any use for them?

Wow, thanks! I can probably reuse my old dust caps, and I'll get new nuts, so the mounts are all I should need. I'm probably going to hold off on the installation until I get new struts (I hate doing the work twice!), so I've got a little time to gather materials.
And yes, I can use the CB450 turn signals. E-mail me with a price for the parts, and how you'd like to settle payment, etc.

I've had this similar problem, but it was from the strut rod breaking near the top mount causing it to bang against it, eventually destroying the top mount also. The nut for the strut seemed fine. Happened with both sides on the rear. I don't think the OEM struts are meant to withstand the abuse I give it around corners. No problem with GR2s.
