FS: Random garage cleanout (boost gauge added)
Here's some random stuff lying around taking up space:
* SOLD - Autometer Boost/Vacuum Guage - $40 + shipping or make offer. New, still in shrink wrapping, includes all hardware and instructions. Autometer 2601. Z-series (black ring, black face, stealthy). Reads out 20psi of boost and -30inHg of vacuum. 2 1/16" diameter. Why selling? I returned the one I used for a year under warranty, and they sent me a nice new shiny one as a replacement. But, my new Zeitronix wideband ALSO reads out boost, so I don't really need this anymore.
http://www.autometer.com/cat_gaugedetai ... h&gid=3243
* car cover - shaped for a wagon (I bought it new from trak auto, and didn't use this much. Now I don't even have my Legacy wagon anymore!).
$40 + shipping.
* SOLD - Saab intercooler (never used by me because I got a WRX intercooler instead. Pulled from junkyard by BlackBart, seems to hold pressure).
$45 plus shipping (that's what I paid BlackBart).
* SOLD - Front strut brace for GC Impreza - also fit on my '90 Legacy - Subaru Brand. It has a superficial rust spot or two where the paint got scratched, but it still does its job. Go here then click on "Strut Tower Brace (Steel)"
http://www.subaru.com/microsites/spt/lo ... m=RS+COUPE
$50 plus shipping (it's $145 new)
To install the strut brace on the Legacy, I found it easiest to jack up the front right corner of the car and undo all three bolts on top of the strut tower so that the strut drops out of the way and gives you room to work. From there, it takes a little manuevering to get the brace under the AC line that runs right past the tower, but I didn't have to disconnect the line or anything. No biggy.
Or make offers, whatever.

Here's a picture of the my strut brace on the old wagon:

VRG - It's hard to say whether it would fit with an intercooler. You can see on my old wagon that it runs pretty high and far back by the firewall, which is the best you could ask for. But, we really cram those intercoolers in there, so it might be tight. I'll hold it up to my engine bay and see if it would fit over my WRX IC.
Personally, I'm not ever going to install it because even if it does fit, I expect that it would block me from removing the intercooler... which is something I end up doing that like every weekend!

Any takers?
I had one PM from "toomuch" about shipping prices for the strut brace. For shipping across the country to Washington State, I went to UPS.com, estimated the weight and size, and it came out to $60. To get an accurate number, I'll have to actually weigh it as well as find packaging and measure the dimensions.

I'm guessing it's about 30 lbs, 5 feet long, and maybe 1.5feet x 1 foot wide... but I'm pulling that out of my butt. Yeah, I have a fedex pickup as well.

30lbs?!? What is it made out of lead? You might want to weigh it, it should be less than that.rallysam wrote:I'm guessing it's about 30 lbs, 5 feet long, and maybe 1.5feet x 1 foot wide... but I'm pulling that out of my butt. Yeah, I have a fedex pickup as well.

Yeah, it's probably a lot less than 30 lbs. I dunno, I was just taking a conservative SWAG for the bar plus packaging... but you're right that I need to go weigh it. Obviously I'm only going to charge what the shipping actually costs.

The link that was posted states:
Q. What is the weight difference between steel and carbon fiber?
A. The steel weighs 2.72 lbs. and the carbon fiber including mounting brackets weighs 3.48 lbs.
Yours appears to be the red steel bar.
I did have a question, though. Why does the right front strut have to be dropped to install this bar? On all the bars I've seen all that is needed is to remove the top three nuts on the top of the strut, place the bar is place, then tighten the nuts down again.

Yeah it's the red one. Lighter than the carbon fiber one - which is really ironic.
Letting the strut drop a couple inches makes it so that it is no longer poking up through the hole in the top of the strut tower. That gives you more room to maneuver the brace into the right position.
The reason it was tricky to maneuver in this case was that the end of the brace has to be slipped under the AC line that runs on top of the strut tower.
Hard to explain. Easy to do. You always have to undo those nuts, just like you say. All I'm saying is that if you have the car jacked up at that point, then as soon as you undo the normal bolts the strut will droop and give you the room you need.

Nope. Haven't been home yet, and I just dropped the car off at a body shop today.
If you really want to see how it lines up, I could probably get the car back and take a look later this week or this weekend. But, don't expect much more than me holding it over intercooler and taking a picture of how it lays.
