Good Coilovers for turbo wagons

Post by legacymax »

I was wondering if anyone here has put coilovers onto a wagon. I am kind of on a budget and i was looking at getting a set of Megan Racing RS coilovers because i have heard good things about them. I did a search are didn't see anything about coilovers on a wagon. Thanks

did you get a wagon max?

im currently looking for coilovers as well.Thinking that since coilovers are pretty adjustable you could just pic up a set for a GC8 and adjust accordingly. I havent seen anything on wagon coilovers either.

Oh side note did you ever end up going out in the snow the other night? We didnt get much so we never headed out. Hopefully soon there will be some snow to play in

Having had three sets of coilovers on my 93, I caution anyone from purchasing them unless they're racing or have glass-smooth pavement to drive on. I would also recommend against getting coilovers meant for a GC8, as both the spring and dampening rates are completely wrong for a Legacy wagon.

I would recommend a replacement strut with a well-proven spring, like something from Whiteline. If you still want adjustability, maybe try the Ground Control setup, as a few people have had good luck with them.

I used to run "Tom Racing" ebay coilovers on my wagon. they were 500lb. pretty junky. the only car I would ever run them on again is a rallycross beater. even then they may be too stiff. cheapo blown struts only, they will eat anything alive short of full race dampers. no need for swaybars, they are that stiff.
I would talk to a circle track racing parts supplier, they have high quality kits and a ton of springs available. takes some doing, but is the best option IMO because you can put together exactly what you want.
oh and where is that wagon? I want it too if you dont get it. was it on craigslist?

This guy came into the shop with his legacy that has a miss in one of the cylinders. he said to my friend that he wants to sell it for $1000. I guess he has an extra 2.2t engine for sale also which i will try to snag for cheap. The car is in great condition except of a little rust on one of the front fenders. The rest of the car is clean.

I am pretty sure i am going to get it.
No idea about the misfire though, but i haven't even seen it yet.
I hope to do a 5spd swap soon on it, i found another turbo legacy 5spd that is pretty beat up so i might part it out because it is worth more in parts.
I will talk to you about the turbo and intercooler because i don't think i will do a frankenstien engine till after school is out.

So will ground control springs work well on a wagon with the weight difference in the rear? will it sag or can i adjust out the sag?
I bought the car, it needs a new headgasket so i might just buy a one of those JDM wrx Engine/Trany/harness/ECU combos off of Ebay and build an 2.2t/wrx hybrid engine, because I am not sure if i want to mess with a 2.2t/2.5DOHC hybrid since I don't know sh*t about EM. I was thinking of a 2.5 harness with a piggyback but i don't know.

Almost four years ago, one of the first guys to do a 4EAT/5MT swap was on a roadtrip through the US, and stopped by to check out my recently-swapped 93. He had AGX with GC coilovers and it was a very nice riding setup. Because they're a spring from Eibach, and probably a standard sized one at that, they can be had in almost any spring rate. So if you decide to get a GC setup, simply tell them that you're putting them on a wagon, and that you need springs accordingly.

OK, now i understand. I don't know you could get different spring rates.
Sweet.

I'm very happy with my H&R coilovers. They are fine in Duluth, which possibly has the worst roads in Minnesota because of the lake. Mid-corner bumps are no problem.

GC makes these kits for a lot of different cars, and they also make full packages for a whole range of uses. On the FB RX-7 that I used to autocross, we had their full Spec RX-7 kit.

The buy form even asks what spring rate you want, or application :)
