Yay new parts!!!

Post by BAC5.2 »

Well, after 2 years of ownership, I finally got a proper suspension...

Noltec front camber/castor plates (had them for a while).

KYB AGX struts.

STi Pink springs

I've also got a lower brace and a couple strut bars coming.

Oh, and camber bolts.

That should be pretty good for a while. I might pick up a set of Tein springs, just to see how they work. The STi pink springs are pretty stiff for a light-ish car like a gutted Legacy.

Best of all, I got a SMOKIN deal on them, so I can't complain at all.

Next, I'll probably do some sway bars/endlinks and see about a set of Group N rear strut top's (or some pillowball joinks. I got sniped on e-bay for a set that I really wanted).

A good alignment, sticky tires, and I think she'll hold alright.

Now I just gotta find the time and money to drive out to Barrett's shop and get me my roll cage!

you will like the AGX's, great shocks.
I doubt the pinks would be too stiff for even a gutted legacy. to me too stiff is like 400-500lb. I think 300 or so would work great. what are the pinks rates?
how gutted is your car, and what does it weigh?
I bet with a lot of cutting disks, fiberglass, lexan and aluminum 2500lbs would be attainable. not with a cage though.

I weighed the car one year with a full set of 4 wheels and tires, a weeks worth of clothes, a full interior, full tank of gas, and tools and such, and I weighed something like 3100lbs.

When I say gutted, right now it's back-seatless. When the time comes for the cage, I'll be taking out all carpet and sound deadening. I'm going to drive the car across the country to Barrett, have him put a cage in it, then drive it all the way back across the country.

The pink rates are something like 257lb-in front and 215lb-in rear (according to Scott's research).

They were in a WRX wagon, and it handled very very well. I might pick up a different set of springs, but I think the STi Pinks will be cool JDM for now.

The struts are from the same 04 wagon. I compared them to my stock struts that are in my garage, and dimensionally, they are IDENTICAL. It's wild! The Turbo Legacy springs fit on the AGX's and the STi springs fit the Turbo Legacy struts. The perches are the same height, the shafts go to the same height, the bolt holes all line up. It's awesome!

those pinks sound great. in fact, I may look for a set, those rates seem about perfect. I am getting tired of stock springs. however I wouldnt mind something a little closer to even rates because I like my cars to be a little tail happy.
barret all wheels driven barret? matt#1's cage is done by him and is freakin sweet. Ive ridden in that car, its pretty bad. chassis stiffness is UNREAL. I guess you are thinkin of ordering the FIA cage kit from england? I wonder what the price difference would be to have some tube bent rather than order the kit.
the process takes a week or so, just something to think about if you were planning on driving out.

AWD Barrett, yes. I'm gonna let him get his grubby hands on the car. He's the only one I trust to do what I'm looking to do. Plus, he's a cool ass guy, and I've done previous business with him.

I need to talk to him about the best approach to meet my needs.

About the spring rates, I dunno! His wagon handled great! Hardy has a similar setup on his car, and I recall him saying it handled really well and that the rear slid out very progressively.

I'll know soon, and if I don't like the springs, I'll sell them for something I like better.

BAC5.2 can you PM some details about the cage when you get them? I want to do the same thing and depending on when you get yours done I will do it at the same time! Thanks.
