KYB Strut Tops?

Post by BAC5.2 »

Found a pic of them. Does ANYONE know anything about them?

Are they simply stock? Are they slightly better than stock? Are they worse?

I might get a set just to see, but that'd be an awful waste of $40 bucks if they are no different or better than stock.

That looks like it's the price per mount, so you'd need two.

I don't know about KYB mounts, but Monroe also makes aftermarket mounts, and those are stiffer than stock.

That's lame. I guess I gotta bite the bullet and get some Group N rear tops.

It'd be dumb to run my new setup with stock rear top hats.

I've had some here for customers and by feel they seem a little stiffer than stock, but not like the Group N mounts. They are cheap though...

I'd be surprised if the KYBs aren't OE. I'm fairly certain that KYB had made the stock struts for Subaru over the last 20 years or so. My argument for this is the large blue containers at the Yajima plant i saw that said "KYB" on the side :)

KYB does make the OE tops, but the one they sell aftermarket seem to be more firm to the touch as I mentioned.

Like how GR2s are slightly stiffer than OE struts...

Don't forget the fact that the KYB's are new and if you are just replacing your strut tops for the first time, the old strut tops are over 10 years old.

With the exception of the unlucky cars with air suspension... Those struts are made by Tokico.
