i dont know what i should do with my ej22t

Post by thehookeup »

well i have a ej22t out of my 93 ss. and i am rebuilding it. but while it was out i thought that i would do a few up grades. i am getting new pistons, i have the stock crank which is in great condition, i have a phase II 2.5 crank, and the stock heads. i also have a front mount intercooler with a '05 wrx turbo. and last but not least a great bellmouth catless downpipe. i am planning on port and polishing the heads myself. i have been practicing. but i am really really confused as to what combo of crank to use.

i would rather use the stock 2.2 crank, just because its flawless. what kind of power do you think i could pull out of these parts, with running about 14psi... need all the advice i can get. fyi i would like to keep this as cheep and painless as possible. thanx

yea i kinda figured that the phase II crank wont work. and i wanna keep the stock heads if at all possible. but i guess if i come across any 2.5's for a decent price i would do it, but i am on a short timeline and a budget so... well see

the only real painless head swap is the DOHC EJ20G heads...

The TD04 WRX turbo isn't really that much of an upgrade to the stock one, and you will have to make some sort of elbow for it.

Good luck with the build, I am in Salem in case you need any help!

just curious what makes the DOHC ej20g heads so easy to swap? I thought it was a little more envolved to go from sohc to dohc

I think the main issues are with oil/coolant plumbing, not the number of cams.

The ony deal with the cams AFAIK is the timing belt, which is fairly minor.

so it would apear to be less work to throw on a pair of DOHC ej20g heads than it would be to throw on a pair of ej25 SOHC heads? hmmm

Absolutely. Any turbo DOHC heads from EJ20G through current would be easier to install than Ej25 heads of either variant...

so it would appear to be the plumbing issue that makes the difference then.

Sorry to hijack your thread there but i agree with the posts a little ways above... might wanna consiter a different turbo cause a tdo4 is still small. other than that im interested to see the out come

Dont forget that you will need the intake manifold for the heads. EJ22t mainifold will not bolt on to the "g" heads.
You will also need the fuel rails and injectors that are compatible with the manifold you are using.

Im in the middle of a 2.5 DOHC EJ22t build right now. I hope to have it in and runnig by the end of the weekend.
