Should I buy a used Legacy L

Post by j10ecjed »

Hi, I am new to this message board. I am thinking about buying a 93 Legacy L Wagon. It has 152k on it. I have to replace the windshield and fix a 4 inch rust spot on the left rear fender.
I do not know much about Subaru's. Are they pretty dependable? How many mile do most people get out of them before any major engine/transmission work has to be done.
The people selling the car only want $500.
What should I do? Buy it? Or not?
HELP
Thanks. jim

500 doesn't seem to be too much at all. You can probably get a new windshield for less than $150. Basically I would probably get it because I could change all the things that are probably coming up (timing belt, water pump, belts hoses etc). I figure you might be up to $1000 all said and done if you have a mechanic get it going for you. At that point you will have a pretty dependable car.

If that's all that is wrong with it I would get it. Subarus are very dependable and tough cars. Most times you get 200K+ miles out of em without MAJOR work. Good luck :D

My thoughts exactly. I do my own work, so it would not be that bad. I found a place to replace the windshield for $175. That sounds good. I think I will go buy it.
Thanks.
Message boards like these are priceless. I used to use the Isuzu Trooper message board a lot, but after 325+k miles, I had to retire the old Trooper.
I did notice a lot accronyms being used here. I am going to have to find out what they are.
Subaru is a new world for me. So be patient with me for asking lots of questions in the near future.
