Smilies?
I was wondering, how do you guys use smilies from other boards and web pages on this and other boards? I've been trying to transplant some and it doesn't seem to work. I just end up with the text and it's driving me nuts!

Here's what I do, although I'm sure there's another way:
I highlight the smilie from the other board, right click and "add to favorites", click on that link, thereby opening that smilie in its own window, copy the URL, and then cut and paste it onto this board in between two img tags
It's pretty cool...

In general you shouldn't do that for two reasons: 1) You're using the other board's bandwidth for another board, and 2) You never know when they might get rid of that smilie or move the image URL.
The way I've done it is to put a copy of the image in my own web space and then use that URL (which is fully under my control and is my responsibility to maintain) for the image in the post.

vrg3 is right, I really shouldn't have done that. That's rs25.com's smilie though, so I think their server could spare that little bit.
If they were to move that URL, it would just be a red X anyway.
However, don't do that to ANY image on www.somethingawful.com onto any board at all! They have something set up where, in the place of the image you swiped, this drag-queen wearing a fake male extremity comes up and the headline says "So you like to steal other sites' bandwidth, huh?"
I learned that the hard way on NASIOC...
