Sportshift transmission?
Would it be possible to put a Sportshift auto transmission from a later model Legacy in my 91, and get everything to work properly? I don't think it's worth the effort to me to do a full 5MT conversion but I'd like to have some manual control.

What year/model Legacies had a sport shift?
A lot of Subaru trannies bolt up interchangably with a some component swapping. But, it's hard to say unless you can tell us a year you are referring to.
Personally, I'm not a fan of these sport shift trannies. Most are just the automatic tranny mechanism with buttons, so they have all the drawbacks of an AT and all the drawbacks of a MT with none of the benefits of either.

Looked into the sportshifter last year and was advised that it would take a jillion hours to sort out the wiring.
I'm considering using www.powertraincontrolsolutions.com
