Before and After....

Post by BAC5.2 »

Took some pics after cleaning and painting.....

To demonstrate the size of the intercooler.....

Image

Image

The core is something like 26x9.5x3.75 or something like that. It's quite large.

Image

The internal fins are shaped just like the external fins. Zig-Zagging the entire width of the core.

What once was silver.....

Image

Now is black!

TaDa!! I used Duplicolor High-Heat engine enamel. Rated to 1200 degrees or something. I'm really impressed with it!

It's in my basement now, curing next to a space heater baking on. The only prep I did was rough up the end tanks per instructions.

I did 2 light coats and one medium coat. The end tanks got an additional coat to make them purty. I taped off the end tanks so no paint got in there.

While I was at Autozone, I picked up some paint for the intercooler pipes. Wrinkle Finish Black. Make it look like a black STi manifold. Should be pretty sweet. Not going to paint those until I fit up the kit and have the pipes already cut. Then I'll dismantle it and paint and reassemble.

What do you guys think?

That would kind of defeat the purpose of painting it black :P

How much did it cost?

The paint? $4.99 for the black. $5.49 for the wrinkle black.

The whole kit? I got a pretty good deal on it from a friend parting out his WRX...

Looks really good, Does that ic fit well, did you have to cut the bumper brace at all? I was gonna go top mount on my legacy but after reading about all the hassle on this forum I might go front mount now.

Stealth is the word. I've been thinking about painting the front and visible part of the fmic in matt black.

BAC5.2 is setting the example. 8)

That was my plan once I get one.

If you think about it, unless you get a TON of paint between the fins, you aren't reducing cooling surface area by an appreciable amount, or so I would think......
