need help on forged pistons.

Post by NICO »

ok i blew something agian, i no i no dame vf34.

this is the plan, i am just about to drop in my ej22t vf22 dohc motor. it will last just under a year (i hope), dont ask me why, but most of you all ready no me and blowing things up.

so with my old motor i am going to get forged pistons (8 pistons in total for when i blow the shit out of the new extra motor). the only company that i can get the pistons from is ARIAS pistons.

now its a custom build piston, and they want to no the specs on the pistons, i dont no what to tell them. (i cant ask my dad becuse he will go nut's and i am not jokeing) so i need some help on this.

plan-A:i want the pistons to be factory standerd size pistons, like stock all the way around even CR stock. could anyone help me out so i can get forged pistons, and tell me the specs i need?

plan-B: i have one more thing, is it true the 22b came with forged pistons, if so could i not find a part number some where order standerd size 22b forged pistons and put them in my ej22t motor?

Good luck finding EJ22G pistons

Talk to Wiseco, they make custom forged ones for the EJ22T...and a smart person would just measure their bore to figure out what size

The Wiseco's come in .020 or .040 over.

http://www.wiseco.com/PDFs/Catalogs/SC06_Subaru.pdf

They are resonably priced though.

Wiseco makes great pistons. If Race Bikes trust them to near 20,000 RPM, I'd trust them to make my power.

CP Pistons also makes pretty great pistons.

Like any piston manufacturer wiseco has strengths and weaknesses. I find that they require a considerable number of hours in deburring and prepping before they're ready to install.

Personally I like CP's better because you can pull them out of the box and drop them in the engine. If you have a spare piston you can just mail it to them and they will make you a custom set. It's not that expensive either.

Anyone try cryo treating stock pistons? Nico, you may be a good guinea pig for it :P Seriously, though, it works wonders on rotors and knives.

Many people do just drop them in but many people are also just mediocre engine builders as well. You can just drop them in but there will be some small gains in finishing them before install. I can't guess at how many more horsepower but with a large bore engine like these any sort of knock resistance helps.

1. heads and everything in the heads even the head bolts and valve covers.

2. intake manifold

3. block and everthing in the block even the oil pan

nothing rubber will be left on so dont get worry guys just the metal parts.

i am even going to get my 5mt done bring it in a million pieces.

I don't know if cryogenic treatment is really beneficial for aluminum parts.

It works on aluminum, but I'm sure the tempering process is a little different so it may be that particular place won't do aluminum. I've even heard of this working on certain non-metallic materials.

So maybe I should smooth off the lazer etched numbers on the dishes of my Wiseco's. They feel kinda rough. Other than that, I don't see where there is deburring to be done, that would matter. ???

o lord i talk to that guy around my city that does this cryo treating he can do the aluminum. i got to bring him everything in a million picecs and it take 3 days.

he is doing the hole motor everything even bolts, the heads everything in side them and the tranny and the gears.

he even told me to bring the spark plugs, it makes a HUGE diffrence he siad day and night.

all this work for 650 canaadian not bad i am doing it. he siad its going to make a huge diffrence stronger better power out put.

i cant wiat, when its all done stick it in the car use it for a while then take out the dohc ej22t and get that one all done with the extra 5mt.

sounds like a good price.
I emaild a cryo company and this is what they told me about cast aluminum:
"It will add some strength and some wear resistance but not allot. The main gain is in expansion. They will grow and shrink in a much more uniform manner so less wear and better ring seal due to that. Pistons have been a popular item with the go-kart guys. Yes $7ea for them."

Think the roughness of those numbers would be more of a catalyst for detonation than any of the other edges? I can smooth them off, but I don't know if I want to grind on my pistons. Hmmmmmmm.

NICO, if I were you, I'd spend the money on the bottom end while its apart. Eagle rods can be had for $300-350 and are plenty good for somewhat sane power levels. I'd have a hard time justifying $700+ for some Pauters or Olivers or the like unless I was going for over 600 chp.

I paid $459 for these Wiseco pistons.
