8mpg, running rich, here are my scantool results
MAF signal :
@ idle - 1.2v
@wot, redline 4.98
TPS @WOT .96
Inj. pulse 19.2 @ WOT
O2 sensor range .1 to 1.1 (this is after replacing the O2 sensor with a brand new one 2 weeks ago
dunno what normal ranges for any of this stuff are, but maybe(surely) you guys know more than me. Gonna clean the MAF sensor with this new MAF sensor cleaner that I bought this afternoon and see if it changes any readings.
TIA!!!

I still have the Bosche O2 sensor and narrow band A/F gauge.
The sensor was working fine when I took it off.

You don't need to drain he cooling system - it's on top in the gooseneck water jacket.
Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.
Thats still below the coolant res. I've been waiting to change mine out. I got a new one from the dealer along with a new thermostat.evolutionmovement wrote:You don't need to drain he cooling system - it's on top in the gooseneck water jacket.

But that's not all that much and stray cats will probably clean up whatever spills.

Laurel, I have a spare known good Coolant Temp Sensor...I will mail it to you!
I think Doug has a good point,
It's a way easy replacement, and will maybe spill like 4 ounces of coolant, nothing to be alarmed about.
I forgot your address so PM it to me again

You have a 16G and a catless downpipe, right? That's about right too.@wot, redline 4.98
That's about right. Maybe a little low. But it should be fine.TPS @WOT .96
If that's just as you slam the pedal down, that's about right too.Inj. pulse 19.2 @ WOT
That seems right if it's at idle or cruise. Under what circumstances did you take this measurement?O2 sensor range .1 to 1.1
What do the fuel trims do?
What makes you say you're running rich? Is it just the poor fuel economy?
I think you might not be running rich. When the oxygen sensor reading is bouncing around, you probably aren't.
This 8 mpg -- is it in the city? On the freeway? Mixed?

o2 sensor range is at idle and then at sustained full throttle.
The exhaust smells like unburnt fuel, and my tailpipe is a mess. That's what leads me to believe the car is running rich. I'll have my friend go out with me again tonight with the scantool and figure out the fuel trims stuff.
the 8mpg is mainly city, but I was getting at least 16-19 about 8 months ago with only city driving.

i didnt spill ANY coolant replacing my coolant temp sensor.
Trick: loosen cap on tank resevoir, squeeze the top radiator tube while the cap is loose, then tighten cap back, stop squeezing top radiator tube. This will create a vacuum, and you can swap sensors in about 2 minutes flat. for the sensor, you need a deep 19mm socket, which is same as 3/4 deep socket.
hope that helps

i just want to add something about this running rich problem everyone is haveing on ej22t motors.
i owned a ej22t motor for a very very long time 14 years 850,000kms half a million miles. i just put dohc heads on my block which everyone might now, the fuel consumption with bigger heads whent down some much i forget when was the last time i whent to the gas station.
with the sohc heads i was useing twice the fuel it was like a pig, with the new heads on the consumption whent down alot.
i have no "specs" for everyone to compare, but i can tell very much bye dialy driving.
its normal for this stock ej22t run so rich
