Auto tranny probs

Post by Legacy777 »

I'm posting this for a guy who emailed me.

english is not his native language. He's having probs with his auto tranny. Here's his email

HI,

My 4EAT this bad one, I will try to repair it. The fault is:
- with the handle in posisión "D"
- the car starts, changes to second speed
- it changes to third speed and increase the revolutions of the motor. It seems that it was neutral position. I review the electrical system and is good.
I need some internal diagram this. He does not exist in the scanned pages that you enclosed to me you have some diagram of the mechanical part? You Speak Spanish? Tanks. Juan Carlos Ruiz V. Concepción-CHILE

Any ideas?
Josh

unless this dude's one hell of a mechanic, I'd recommend he takes it somewhere else. sounds like either the 3rd gear or direct clutches are wiped out. There could also be a 3rd gear solenoid in that unit too, but I'm not sure. The only other thing could be a planetary gear wiping out, but if that happened he would have heard a loud pop. Like I said- he should probably take it somewhere. It also takes a few very expensive specialty tools inside.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to work on a Honda, and I should know....

Changing directly to second could be a sign that the front band was tightened too much. If that was the case he would go directly from 2nd to 4th so it must not be it.
Having 3 go to neutral sounds more like the transmission is shifting back into first and the engine speed isnt enough to move the vehicle (free wheeling since engine braking is not in effect).
