Another newbie from Europe

Post by Rasta SLO »

Hello guys! :smt039
I´m reading this forum for a while now and now i decided that its time to introduce myself. :-D And my car of course. :smt050
I drive a 92 Legacy Wagon 2.0 GL. It has pretty much everything except power (only 116 bhp) :(

I have another set of tires on alloy wheels waitin for the end of skiing season. Wintertires are unstoppable in snow. 8)

And some winter action

And here we have one extreme snow trip (no one but me and a few off-roaders on the road) :-D

There was so much snow on the road that my girlfriend and friends decided that they will go down the road on their boards, :D

And when i came home there was around 40 cm of snow, waiting for me to clean it :smt011

Thats it for my first post. If you got any queations ask.

Nice Wagon, the interior is great!!!!!! Do you put spokes to the tires???
The snow is one of the best roads to enjoy a Subaru.

Except on the fog light, in argentina we have the same model. 2,0 GL.

Woah... totally didn't notice that. Trippy.

I'm pretty sure they think Americans are too stupid for dual-range... all we ever got on the Legacy was full-time 4WD. The RX (a version of the Leone -- except they didn't call it that here) had dual-range, but AFAIK that was the only Subaru ever to have it in the US.

We also only had the EJ22 and EJ22T as engine choices (no 1.8 or 2.0, although we did get a 1.8 in the Impreza for a while). And the grille on your car only came on Turbos, I think.

The only two engines in Subarus currently on the market are the EJ25 and the EJ25T (I think that's what the turbo version is called). We only got the 2.0 liter in the WRX from 2002 (its first year here) to 2005. We didn't have any turbos between 1995 and 2001. :(

Where does the EJ257 fit into that set of engines?

The EJ257 is the USDM STi powerplant...

Any engine ending in "7" is an STi motor

The WRX has an EJ255, and the "5" generally means it is a Legacy/Baja/WRX motor

Hmmm...I think someone needs to get ahold of a Legacy Dual Range tranny...how sweet would that be to have a Dual Range Touring Wagon?!?!? :o

btw...You could option Dual Range in the EA series Wagons, RX's, Hatchbacks, etc...

I'm glad someone who knows more about Subaru engines than I do chimed in...

A dual-range touring wagon would be off the hook! (It would have to be 5-speed too though.)

My impression was that any Loyale-type car that had the dual-range option was called an RX -- I seem to remember reading that somewhere, but I could have misinterpreted or the source could have been wrong. I do remember that one of my babysitters when I was very young had a dual-range wagon, though -- I thought all Loyales were dual-range for a while because of that.

Yes i have a dual range gearbox. I think almost all european models have it except for the turbo.
I dont have spikes on the tires, they are forbidden here. :? And frankly i dont need them. This year i was driving on totally icy hilly road (1 cm of freezing rain) and i had no problems. My gearbox was ofcourse on LOW. :-D
Ow and i also noticed that you have a lot of automatics  here we mostly have a 5spd manual, automatics are wery rare.

Nice day to you all.

Automatic are very rare in Argnetina too, maybe only 10% of wagons are automatic, we have almost all dual range in wagons.

Same overhere :D

All 4WD manual wagons have dual range. My dad also in his 2.0GL 4WD MY02.

In america you maybe had an Impreza 1.8, but in Europe we had a 1.6 :P :-D
Since 2006, that engine was taken out of the modelrange.

We haven't had the 1.8 for a long time. Since we got the redesigned Impreza in 2002, the only naturally-aspirated engine we've had was the 2.5. For a little while before that, it was the 2.2 and the 2.5.

I don't know why so many Americans like automatics... Probably because they're lazy. ;) Manuals are much more fun to drive and you get more control and involvement with the car.

That's strange. That Forester can choose between FWD, 4WD hi and 4WD low.

We don't have FWD Foresters. Only 4WD with a low gear selector. :?

EA81s had dual range also. I've seen Brats, wagons, and hatches with them. IIRC there was a turbo hardtop, also, but that may not have been dual range. It was jacked up like a wagon, though. Kind of an early SUS, I guess. Couldn't find any listing of it in my brochures.

Someone should update this article then, because it says only the RX models had dual-range:

We had a really nice sunny day today and i decided its time that my wagon gets a polish and wax treatment. It took me around 3 hours to finish it. Here is the result.

I thought all european vehicles were required to have headlight sprayers?

I want a dual-range tranny in my Forester.
