Brake Squeal w/ Carbotech Bobcats

Post by MikeC5 »

I recently installed Bobcats to replace worn out OEM Subaru pads and despite cleaning the shims real good and applying plenty of the blue goo, I'm getting bad brake squeal. I did bed-in the pads per the write up. Since the rotors were not badly grooved, I did not have them turned down. I've read somewhere that deposits from some brake pads on the rotors can cause problems with new pads. Short of turning town the rotors, can anything else be done? I was thinking of taking some emory to the rotors...

When do they squeal?

Light brake pressure or full brake pressure?

Personally, i'd remove the stupid metal backing clips. They caused more noise for me then they helped remove.

Bobcats are like Hawks. Sometimes noisy, usually when cold.

They make some "stop squeal" spray stuff that you could try. It worked great for my buddy on his SHO. I didn't try it, but it's some silvery spray that you hit the rotors with, and it's supposed to stop squeals.

They only seem to squeal with light brake application. Something you spray on the rotors?

That's normal for more aggressive pads.

Use the orange CRC disc brake quieter stuff. Apply it to the back of the pads, and get rid of the clips that attach to the back of the pad as well.
