I have a 91 legacy turbo (automatic) it will not not go into any of the drive gears, it only gos in reverse. But before when was driveable it acted like it was the break band problem when driven. If it is the break band could some body clearify where the hell it is?
I was told by a subaru dealerships machanic that there is no break band adjustment. And on another matter I was told that only a 91 legacy turbo tranns can work in a 91 legacy turbo, not evin the legacy turbos from 92-94!
If anyone can help please do so as I need a car to drive to work etc.
P.S. I was wondering exactly how much it would cost to swap for a 5 spd?
Thanks for the info. Just to be clear, an auto from a legacy turbo or any legacy or maybe an impreza would fit? And does it have to be AWD or turbo tor the tranny to work?
As long as the transmission is of the same type (4wd or fwd) and you have the matching rear differential ratio it will work from ANY legacy impreza forester upto at least 95 if not 97.
Most likely the easiest way would be to find a junk legacy and just take all the needed parts as a set and swap them over.

Thanks a buch ciper thats about answers all my questions except one which is, how to tell what differential a car has. Yeah I know, my car knowledge sucks ass!
Easiest way? If the transmission is still installed in the original vehicle just look at the sticker on the back of the diff. This is the most sure way. Otherwise ask us and we should be able to give you the number (4.11, 4.44 3.9 or 3.54)
