EJ22 to EJ20 swap Questions

Post by Turbosentra93 »

Ok First of all I am a total noob to subies. So be nice :D . Anyways I just got my moms old 91 legacy for free because my little brother blew the motor. I have found that the EJ22 motors are a little expensive and was told that a EJ20 is a "Direct Replacement". From searching I have found that all EJ series are interchangeable as far as mounting up and the tranny.

Here is the email that I got from the engine importer:

"the 2.0 replacement engine (EJ20) is basically
the same look, mounts, ecu, sensors, etc.
All the original accessories from the EJ22 will swap without a problem or modifications, timing belt, water pump
are the same aswell"

Is this all true?
Are there any little things I am missing?
Is it really this easy?

Thanks for any help, This site has a lot of info :-D

Turbo EJ20, or N/A?

If it's turbo, not much will be the same. If it's N/A most stuff should work.

Why not replace it with another EJ22?

Sorry it is a N/A ej20. The price for the EJ22 is kinda spendyI was quoted $895 for a 2.2 vs $395 for the 2.0.

My sentra is my money pit. I just want to get the subie on the road for a reliable daily driver. And maybe sell it later.

ej22's are dirt cheap. seen several runners go for 100. but plan on spending 400-600 for a nicer one. plus your in oregon so they will be easy to find.
www.car-part.com or one of the subaru shops in the area. the locals can tell you about shops.

I can probably help you out on this as this is basically all I've been doing in the past six months. I think $400 for an EJ22 installed sounds better.
