TEIN

Post by Subtle »

Has anyone recently installed Tein springs and adjustable dampers. :?:

What I want is a standard rate spring, which I think is 225 front and 185 back, and a standard ride height, with adustable dampers for track time.

For the 93 Turbo Wagon.

Use AGX struts with stock springs?

No real point to adjustable damping with stock springs, IMO. AGX's on stock springs is pretty much what I'd suggest for a good setup. Sam's car (RallySam) has a really nice riding car.

Over-damping will simply continue to pack up the suspension. Under-damping will cause bounciness.

which tien springs? general concensus on tein seems to be that they're not all that great.

the 04+ sti springs are that rate. You could use those, AGXs, and 90-91 tops/perches. I think that would probably work pretty well. Plus you can get stock springs on the cheap at nasioc. Actually rally370 probably has a few sets laying around.

The wagon rides good --even with a full load. Particularly, since the Whiteline bars and links were installed(front 20, rear 20/22/24). :-)

As noted in the opening post, I want to have adjustable shocks and for that
I'll need coil overs. I know where to get springs with the standard rate and ride height, now I need to know about the shocks.

I emailed Tein but of course they don't list a set for a 93 Legacy, so I need to know what Teins will fit and if the damping will range from around the stock rate to stiffer for some track time.

you will find a setting with the agx's you will like. they adjust from stockish to annoyingly stiff(for daily driving at least)

I think those are the ones we have to get anyway. Tire rack doesn't have them listed for a Legacy.

The tiens I've seen are H-techs and S-techs. 02-03 Impreza fitment should work with a 92-94 and 04+ works with a 90-91. Although lower spring perch height differences between the struts and possibly spring length differences could mean the ride height is different depending on what you use. Also you'll need new front perches to go with the springs.

The reason tiens are generally bad is because they lower the car too much and aren't stiff enough for the drop. So on a WRX, you have to take off a lot of bumpstop to avoid being on them all the time, and you run into bumpsteer and the funky end of the camber curve.

I don't think the Teins will work very well for you, especially with a wagon.

another vote for the AGX w/stock springs.

i have them on both my cars. love them. and they have 4 settings for the front and 8 for the rear.

setting them to 4 and 8 was very annoying for daily driving on crap all season tires.
