Blinking Check engine light
Recently My Check enging light turned on..I pulled codes and found the problems..code 24 air control valve and code 42 Idle switch... I thought nothing of it and still got good gas so I kept driving the car for it got 32 mpg. THEN the other day I changed the plugs and wires on the old girl, with both fuel and air filter replacemnt....and right after the replacment of parts the car ran horriable, and now the check engine light constantly blinks when the car is running....it won't let me pull codes anymore and the gas mileage has dropped to 27 mpg. I've noticed a slight power loss. the car also sounds a bit different up high over 4grand. She's FWD 5-speed 94 Leg with 203,000.....any ideas????

Read through the instructions for pulling codes again and you'll understand what the connectors are for.
If you connected them, just disconnect them and everything will be fine.
If they're already not connected, you have a problem in the wiring harness or in the ECU itself.

WHen I unplug the test wires....the light keeps blinking and the Seat belt light goes crazy...it just blinks really fast....and the car dosen't beep when the the key is in the ingnition and the door is open.....so you think MY ECU is is gone??? Could it be a fuse or Bus instead???...Unfourtunitly I think The ECU could be messed up......uggg.. THE car sat for 10 mos before I replaced the countless stuff on it....Perhaps the electronics got fouled in that time period

I'm glad the problem's gone, but...
The connectors were red, not green? That ain't right... In fact, I can't think of any single-contact connectors with red housings on the car. Or any red connector housings, now that I think of it.
The wires are orange and black-with-red-stripe.

No no, I'm saying "wouldn't run period" to his question "did I mess it up?"subyluvr2212 wrote:Ummm, no?scuzzy wrote:if you did your car wouldn't run period.
I don't think so.
Your car will run with the green test-mode connectors together. Mine did for 6 months... It will just keep blinking the code the entire time... It shouldn't damage anything.
I'm stating that if he borked the ECU, the car wouldn't run. and I stated that I didn't think he borked the ECU, because his car is running, thus, everything is OK.
got it?
