Torque converter bolloxed?

Post by Splinter »

The car has been feeling oddly sluggish lately, it takes a few seconds to pick up after I mash the throttle, stuff like that.

I noticed last night while in a drive through that when the car is in gear but not moving, there is a tinkling sound, like a fleck of metal being bounced around inside a tin can. It only happens when the car is in 1-4,R and stopped. In neutral and park it doesnt happen, and when Im crawling it doesnt happen.

Torque converter?

have you tried to locate where the sound is coming from? put the tip of a screwdriver on the bellhousing and use it as a "stethoscope."

I just check the dipstick, it seems to have enough fluid but it smells slightly burned

Not really strong, but a little.

Warm it up or not, I believe there are cold and hot sets of markings on the dipstick.
Stop the car, shift through all positions, leave it in park and running, then check fluid.
