Because of the all the hurkey jerky miss and catch that has happened since I installed the SMT6, of which I am pretty convinced was just a coincidence, I have destroyed the mounting area of my aluminium custom crank pulley. It is out of round so bad now it is making noise.
I will be taking it off tommorrow and hopefully having my crazy machinist fix it. Hopefully it will be done by friday, but I never know his schedule

doug, have you ever thought of trying a chain drive? you could cut up a bike crank to bolt to the crank pulley and get any ratio you wanted. it would be noisier, crazier, and way more adjustable.
you could use BMX chain, 410 or 420 which would be pretty strong and there are crank spiders available that would be easy to bolt on. cut up a bmx hub for the adapter to the charger with a fixed gear driver on it would be cool, you could go down to something like 12t on the charger and way up on the crank, like 60+ with road bike chain ring. you could really simplify your pulley setup. just thinking out loud is all.
dirtbike stuff would work too, stronger but not as wide of gear selection and a bit heavier.
road bike chain would be nice and light, not sure about the strength or rpm capability.
what is the drive ratio on your charger right now?
and do you think the chain idea would work?

WOW, its really really bad. The keyway slot became a slot about 1/3 of the way around the pulley, smashed the hell out of the existing key, and wore out the back of the pulley so that is was loose!
I have to pull off the timing belt, smack off the timing pulley and reinstall a new key.
Hmmmm, maybe those DOHC heads are going on this weekend?

you havent seen this mess yet..... The tip of the crank is damaged enough so that the key is bent over and the keyway ahead of teh timing belt pulley is damaged.

Well, I got the key out by cutting it with an air disk grinder. The timing belt pulley is STUCK and won't come off, but i was able to get a new key stuck back in and everything reassembled. My timing belt tensioner was shot as well, so its good that i got down in there.
The tip of the crankshaft is pretty shot. It was in bad shape when I got the motor, and now its worse. Not hugely worse, but I suspect i will eat another pulley if I don't watch it.
For right now I am keeping the stock steel pulley on until I get a new crank pulley made, or repair the old on. so I will be getting a whopping 3-4 psi.

Got the crank pulley redone on Friday. Cost my about $150 this time ($100 labor and $50 for an EBAY underdrive pulley).
It isnt 100% true this time, cause I hope not to have it on that much longer and I KNOW being true doesnt actually matter, although it is nice....
SO HAPPPY, the power is back, and damn I love it!
