Noob question: stock WRX cat back on a 97 Legacy GT?....

Post by epike7915 »

I am sure it is not a bolt on, but I want to know if anyone with a NA Legacy has retro-fitted a stock WRX catback? It seems as if there are a lot of these stock systems laying around and if they are 2.25" that would. Or no, Just do a 2 1/4" muffler shop custom?

Thanks for input...

I put an STi cat back on my Outback.
If you leave the hanger on the mid-pipe in place. That will line up the bend that goes under the axle.
Next you have to move all three mounting posts on the Axle back. You can either heat them up and bend them or cut and weld. Either way its not easy.
Then you will likely have to extend the tail pipe.

Its far from a bolt-on ordeal.

Do a custom job with 2.25 and a Magnaflow, you would love the sound...

In all honesty, a WRX catback is really not any better than your stock one, except for it is 2.5" pipe.

Napp- I am not worried or concerned about the stock hangers working, or being a bolt on. I can work around that. I was thinking more of getting a quality OEM rr muffler and bigger diameter pipe that would line up pretty close to where the original pipes are. I am planning on removing the front cats on mine and possibly a header later. How do you like the sound of the stock STI catback?

555- point taken on the 2.25 and magnaflow.

Anyone else?
