Hi,
I have a legacy rs which I rally. At the moment it has a standard RS gearbox, but 3rd gear is alot lower ratio than 2nd and make it difficult to drive and commit to corners.
I want a close ratio box from a WRX. There are alot from sale but how can I tell if they are actually close ratio? Gearbox serail numbers? part numbers?
Also. I have been told a 4.44:1 ratio drivetrain will lower my torque curve and give me better acceleration. Is this true? Are 4.44:1 drivetrains available in close ratio?
Thanks for your help and comments.
Cheers
Hayden

A 4.44:1 will effectively shorten all of your gear ratios by the same amount.
If you want short ratio, you want a box from an STi RA, or build a gearset with RA gears. It won't be any stronger though, so don't lie to yourself.
There are aftermarket, close-ratio gearsets available. We sell them, but they aren't cheap. They are RA ratios, but are stronger than stock RA gears.
