Go buy a GL or something with nasty rusty damage, grind out the rust, weld in some plates, and rhino the whole thing.

Just for the record, it wouldn't be flat black. I hate flat black more than I hate VWs. It would be a gloss black with a clearcoat. Something I can clay bar.

I have nearly no photos that show the top of that car. This is from the first weekend I had it.

Gotta say I am glad I voted for changing it. Didn't want to search for your post with the pics, but with the tints that will be a very nice unified color for the upper half of your car. I would do it if I had the wherewithal.

I was one of the TWO people who voted to fix the rust and paint it silver? Why people? You're all nuts.
Paint it silver, dammit!

if your going to rattle can it... definetly black, but if your going to actually have it sprayed "professionally" i would just make it silver. or you could have a paint shop mix up some body colored spray-paint in a can (there is a place i know of here in tacoma that does that) and just spray the rust spots after you fix them, that way it will still be silver and you wont have to repaint the whole thing

If I'm going to be removing one of those dreadful flat rails, I'm going to remove them all and will have to paint the entire roof

That photo chop makes it look like a vinyl roof.
