I rode in an STi last night

Post by entirelyturbo »

:D  :D

All I have to say is I will never buy a non-Subaru car ever again...

I used to frequent a Volkswagen hangout spot, since a lot of my friends are VW people and were there a lot. They were in a hiatus for a while, which meant I had little reason to be there.

Well, I heard my friends would be there again last night, so I thought I would take the XT out for a spin. I get there to learn that a guy who had a hooked-up GTI made a wise move and traded it for an STi. He's about 40sumthin too!

Anyway he offered me a chance to ride in it, as well as two other people.

Guys, my neck still hurts. Even with 4 people in it, that car has Caterpillar-sized-torque!!! It sounded absolutely beautiful, it looked fantastic, but all that was NOTHING compared to the ride! And get this, he never went past 5500rpm...

You could put Michael Schumacher in it and he would still call it a fast car! Even with AWD, even after he was rolling at 20mph, he would get on it and you would still hear tires squealing a bit...

Needless to say my XT felt quite slow on the drive home...

And me - I was watching a show today where (amongst other things) they raced an STi Impreza against the fastest of 8 Ford Escort Cosworths (if you don't know what that is, see http://www.kolumbus.fi/ilpok/esc_cos.html) and it was a dead heat.

I've been in Sierra and Escort Cosworths over here and they are VERY impressive so I too am envious! 8)

I wish I could try driving one!!! I saw one the other day at the place where I eat lunch sometimes and I stood outside staring at it for 3 or 5 mins. just dreaming. They are nice looking cars.

I said "more like," not "exactly."

first one i ever saw was comming up I5 north of bakersfield. Gave him thumbs, and he dropped a gear (tweet!) and floored it. I watched him fade, very rapidly, into the distance. I floored it in 5th, but at 100 that just doesnt do much. sooooo neat!

My boyfriend is trading his civic for a STi in a few weeks. He said that I could be the first to drive it besides him... I'm scared. :x

Scared? Scared that I trust you?

I have no doubt that you'd treat the new car with more respect than any other car you've driven. Of course, 300 ponies under your foot is enough to make anyone VERY cautious. :D

Subyluvr, I TOTALLY know what you're talking about with the torque. That EJ25 revs-up so effortlessly. . . from any RPM. When I test drove an STi, I wanted to see how it responded to a 4th gear pull from about 2000 RPM. Needless to say my friend in the backseat said "holy ****, this thing needs headrests in the back!"

Indeed, it passed the test with flying colors. ;)

Only the US version is 2.5t. All other countries get the 2.0tt IIRC.

We (australia) may be getting the 2.5 turbo in the near future but only in small numbers according to Subaru Aus. Cant wait till they do just so i can get one from the wreckers and bung it in my 96' Legacy tt. The tt's are annoying me at the moment.

I've driven both the 2003 UK WRX (2.0t = 225bhp) and the 2003 WRX STi 8 (2.0t = 265bhp) and the STi is by far the car to get

The power is awesome yet I got no where near to needing the 6th gear in the manual box  ...wonder what it's like with the Prodrive Performance pack which takes it to a whopping 305BHP 8)

Indeed. . . Jspec STis started even before the MY02 WRX platform was introduced.

The USDM STis are being introduced via the MY04 WRX platform. Very little is different between this new design and that of the MY02. Mainly cosmetics and some interior changes.

Well, I've seen pictures of some Legacy STis. . .just don't know about their authenticity as of yet. But yes, we're referring to the Impreza WRX STis. 8)
