The ej22t's are oil piggys
I had noticed a little while ago some liquid down around the knock sensor. It looked almost like coolant....which might have been.
Since I had to remove damn near the entire intake system to replace the IAC valve, I started noticing oil spots. The main spot was where it had seaped through the bottom portion of the throttle body gasket, and through the bottom gasket where the 90 deg elbow goes into the turbo.
I'm assuming this oil is coming from the PCV system. I need to work on putting a catch can in, and see if that helps.
Have any of you other guys noticed anything similar? Did you notice a big difference when/if you put in a catch can?

I've never seen oil on the top of my block. Not on my new one, not on the old NA one that had 155k on it (and was leaking oil out of the rear main seals like crazy)Legacy777 wrote:I had noticed a little while ago some liquid down around the knock sensor. my motor leaks a LOT of oil which is really bothersome for having about 5k on my new motor.
its coming out of either the rear main, rear of the oil pan gasket, or that wierd plate on the back of the block.
all new seals and I used permatex#2 on that plate, I'm thinking maybe I should have used hylomar? the permatex said it was ok for oil.

well that plastic plate on the back is called a baffel plate. its a total pain in the ass. its all dependent on how you cleaned the mating surface of that plastic. cause one i cleaned it on a wire wheel. i know im retarded. and it leaked, but i also stay away from the cheep permatex, i like to use " THE RIGHT STUFF" that stuff seals anything in less than a minute.
as far as the oil on the top of the motor i would have to say PCV, but my dumbass buddy, didnt put in the oil retainer bolt on the top of the motor and he started it up , holy crap that thing pumped out so much oil on the top of his motor. and the crazy thing was he couldnt see it cause of the intake mani. he found out once it warmed up enough to start to burn

The spot that's been bothering me the most is right under where the turbo>TB elbow meets the TB. I have tightened the snot out of that hose clamp, but to no avail.

I never use the plastic baffle plates on my engines. There is a metal version of it available that is well worth the cost. Basically, anytime the backside of the engine is exposed for repairs (clutch replacement, rear main, etc etc.) I would strongly suggest that people replace it with a metal plate...thehookeup wrote:well that plastic plate on the back is called a baffel plate. its a total pain in the ass. its all dependent on how you cleaned the mating surface of that plastic. cause one i cleaned it on a wire wheel. i know im retarded. and it leaked, but i also stay away from the cheep permatex, i like to use " THE RIGHT STUFF" that stuff seals anything in less than a minute.

Funny, my engine is doing the same exact thing on all new gaskets. You didn't happen to get a gasket kit from ebay did you? If you did, I'm never recommending this kit to anyone else. The rear seals anyway. Everything else is cherry.206er wrote:its coming out of either the rear main, rear of the oil pan gasket, or that wierd plate on the back of the block.

So did you say for sure it's oil, or do you think it might be coolant as you stated earlier? I know my TB coolant lines were cracked so it was leaking around there. If it's oil, you're probably right about the PCV system. My ex had a GSX with a small fuel-filter inline of the PCV to the intake tube and it went black in a week. No real perforance gains. It did clear out the turbo of oily resadew though.

I've bypassed my TB coolant lines. So there's a possibility it's coming from that connection. But it's been that way on my old motor for ages and not had a problem.
I'll just have to keep an eye on things.
