Well i suppose I should start from the beginning..This past monday I take my car to the local spray wash and wash it(obviously) after I finish I sit in the parking lot with my car running talking to a few friends who were also there. We decide to hit a local fast food place, upon returning about an hour later I start my car to find it missing REALLY badly..puffing blackish smoke out the exhaust and stalling about 10 times. Finally, the car warms up and still misses..but it stays running enough to get it home..as I pull into my driveway it would only miss once about every 2 minutes and stopped stalling..The next morning after a nice rain and it was still cold outside I start my car and that really bad miss and black smoke thing repeats itself again..but of course..I must get to work to I drive as fast as the car will let me ( about 15 MPH) until the car gets to normal operating temp and again..only has a slight miss but is otherwise fine.. later in the day when I get out of work..it was about 70 degrees and sunny..I start my car..but this time..is doesn't miss really bad..it only has that slight miss and once again drove perfectly fine. I have replaced the following things...Coolant temp sensor, Spark plug wires, (did a tuneup with plugs 10 K ago), I also tried a coil pack to no avail. Its not throwing a check engine light..however sometimes when it would miss really bad..the "power" light would blink and stop. Its only done this a few times and I doubt this is something transmission related because it is a missfire. Any Ideas, im pretty much stumped..it must be something moisture related but I can't figure it out..so its up to you leggy experts..

Thanks,

My car will sometimes throw a cel and limit me to wastegate boost if it rains. It doesn't happen all the time tho. I know the cause of it is my knock sensor, because it got sprayed down with coolant pretty bad one day. Now your symptoms aren't exactly similar to mine but its worth a shot, and you can get one off of a junker for a few bucks.

Knock Sensor.

Bet you have a gray-connectored one and it's cracked.

Check and see.

Mine didn't throw a code in the rain.

Could be what Phil said, when my KS went, symptoms were similar to what you posted.

When I was having really wierd issues with my bad O2 sensor wiring, symptoms were very similar to that also. If it's not the KS then it might be that.

Oh yea, I had those same symptoms Matt had when my O2 sensor went bad.

I caught it early, and was lucky.

If you did wash the engine bay, you could have gotten water down into the spark plug holes. This happened to me once and the car ran like total crap, as the spark was arcing to the water instead of the plug electrode.

no, I did not wash the engine bay. Although I am familiar with getting water in the plug holes..this isn't the case this time as I have replaced all the wires and it has been a few days since ive washed it. I'm beginning to wonder if it is a knock sensor. Wouldn't the CEL be on if it was? the 02 sensor and the fuel filter are brand new as well.

My knock sensor throws a light, but Matt's and Phil's don't. It really does sound like it is your KS, as was stated before.

If you did take off the turbo induction plate under the hood scoop, then you have to make sure the ignitor is fuction well, I have this problem when I take off the turbo inducter and water gets in the engine when rainning at that day, then my car has problem to run and its sound different. Then I found out the car was running 2 cyclinder only.
I went to local junkyard and got a ignitor and plug it back then the car runs fine again.
Check it out before you do anything.
And I hope it could help!!

I checked all 4 plugs are getting spark. Although I did remove that scoop plate. I suppose I will check the knock sensor tommorrow.

Alright, I think I finally figured this out...finally after weeks..she finally threw a CEL. I am getting the following codes 13(cam angle sensor) and 45 (Atmospheric pressure sensor). it says its only on the non turbo? how could it be throwing a code that shouldn't exist on my car? haha. How hard are these to replace?

What says it's only on the non-turbo? Chances are you just need to keep reading. :)

You didn't answer my question, but I'll answer yours:

No, but 45 (Pressure sensor and pressure exchange solenoid valve) is.

You try too hard. See, I am of the understanding that this whole propaganda called 'reading' is simply leftist hogwash designed to dilute the values of the american people.

I had my 2.5RS throwing the baro sensor code and running really rough, took apart bsro sensor dumped out the water and used about10 psi of air pressure to blow off the sensor inside and dried the foam element that is supposed to keep water out, cleared the codes and was back in business.
