This vent thing is in the trunk, on the passenger side fender, hidden behind the trunk liner. Pretty interesting design, with flappers to make it one-way. Anyone know its purpose?

This is what I'm going to block that vent with. I wonder if I could actually modify the vent to keep it cool on hot days.

The vent are there to prevent pressure build-up in cabin and let fresh air get in when you activate the fresh air vent in front.

Really? How does air get from the passenger compartment to the trunk?

Cool. When I was a kid I always wondered how the air got out.

I might tear the flappers off to ventilate the trunk even when the car is parked and off. If I wasn't lazy, I would put a little fan there too for when I'm parked in grid.

I guess I have to make sure exhaust gas doesn't come in there. Carbon Monoxide asphyxiation can really ruin your day.

You don't want to take the flappers off.....you'll have a higher chance of water and gunk getting in the cabin/trunk.

Yeh the flaps are there for some reasons.

Exhaust gas basically wouldn't get in from there as long as you're not idling in an enclosed area and your exhaust tip protrudes past your bumper bar - which is what it is supposed to be for a factory or properly designed aftermarket exhaust as if not so you might have cabin drone due to resonation. It's also a legal requirement to have such a configuration in some countries (like Oz).
