I'm thinking of painting my car...

Post by Imprezive »

Well I talked to my brother in law the other day, and he told me how he is going to paint his car Army Green! I love the idea, and he found a company that can get the real stuff the army uses to repaint their vehicles but in a rattle can.

Its also a streak free formula so you dont see the spray can strokes like you would with normal stuff.

dude that would be pretty cool. when you get the spray cans. put them in a bucket of hot water and let them soak for like 20 mins, then start painting. thats what i did to my hood. the spray was so fine, no streaks

Hmm, if I do it I'll do it this summer, I don't know what to do about the trim on the A and B pillars. Because that stuff is black but its wearing away. I also need a little body work done, so I'll see what I can do. I dont want to paint it with the big dent it has in the passenger side quarter panel.

I tried to paint a legacy army green in Macromedia fireworks but it looked weird, I need photo shop.

Neat! How much is it?

I want to paint my car with Radar Absorbant Paint. I actually thought about doing that once, mixing some asbestos into paint and shooting the car with it.

haha, but you better watch out because then you might get "mesofelioma" or whatever that cancer stuff is you get from asbestos. Its about $70 for a case of 12 cans, its an Ultra flat paint, and its real auto paint just in a spray can.

With ultra flat you dont need to put as much effort into making sure you spray at a certain distance and speed. What gives you the streaks you see with normal primer is the thickness of the paint, normal primer has a sheen rating of about 15% so when you accidentally overlap the paint you've already sprayed it gets a little thicker and reflects light better, making it a littl emore shiny.

If you paint your car with radar absorbing paint we'll name your car the "Ghost of Gaithersburg".

take it off, sand to 800 grit or so and shoot it with some black DP90 or even some gloss if your so inclined. or what about stripping all the black off and leaving it brushed aluminum? that would be crazy.
the more I think about it, the more I like the idea of army green on a legacy. would be way different, and not look really crappy like flat black does on a legacy.
flat black looks way better on old stuff for some reason not a legacy.

Yeah, the color I am looking at isnt so much of an army green as a grey-green. So I am looking for a more green color that is still Ultra-flat paint.

When I finally get an '84 hardtop I'm thinking of painting it flat blue or dark (old Maserati) red.
