2nd supercharger is installed..... Now with pics

Post by douglas vincent »

Need a longer belt, 2 longer sections of 2.5" pipe, cut the hood up some more, make a "big" blowthrough maf, and install a real BOV. So basically I should be running tomorrow night. :-D

Ok, maybe Saturday.......

Thanks Andrew for the offer.

No pics yet, its to dark out (I am working in the street with a hologen, the damn Mazda 323 GT is still up on blocks in the shop).

But.... All the piping is finished and tight. I am, for the moment, not doing the blow through MAF, since thats a project in itself. And because of that, I have not installed the Turbo XS BOV, but am keeping the Supra ABV for now.

I cut ALOT out of the hood, say a hole 3 feet wide by 6".

I modified the positive and negative cables and reinstalled them. I just need to cut a larger hole in the fire wall to feed them through.

The belt size I need is alot smaller than anticipated. Only 90" or so.

Ahhhhh..... should be running tomorrow.

As ghetto as it is, its still pretty cool! All the blue and red silicone connectors help with some bling factor so overcome the ghetto factor. If I had money and time, it would not only look better, but perform better. But, I have very little money, and that I have to hide from my wife!

It runs!

It runs poorly.

It gets to only 9 psi in fifth.

Poop.......

Three problems....

1- need a slightly long belt so I can get a tensioner on the 2nd SC side.

2- Need a Blow Thru MAF because....

3- Sucking air through 2 superchargers is hard work while superchargers are off and this would be solved by.....

4- Running superchargers in parrallel instead of sequential as they currently are.

hey doug, first off congrats man. looks great. but second while your at it put in a killl switch for the battery. cause they wont let you run at PIR. again i got denied because i dont have a kill switch. and it has to be mounted on the alternator. and no where else. oh yea i forgot to say. your going down!!!!. jk but you and i need to line up one night. it will be fun getting my ass kicked.

V. cool set up--without punning-- it sure must look after the under hood heat problem :!:

Andrew

Please tell me more about the kill switch rule for Portland.

Didn't need one for time trails when I was last at PIR--but that was quite a while ago.

i guess that when you relocate your battery to the trunk. you have to have a kill switch running off your alternator. they let me run once a couple of weeks ago, but they warned me. and some how they remembered telling me that. so they wouldnt let me run last night. the kill switch cannot be anywhere except off the top of the alternator. it cannot be under the dash or in the cab of the car. it has to be in the engine compartment.

and doug you might have to check with them because you might need a different setup because your running it in a wagon. its just a real pain in the ass.

You should try to find a hood crumpled from an accident in the right spot and tie it down.

Heres a good one....

Wagon runs fairly well considering. And now idles pretty good........

until.......

you pop the hood release in the vehicle. Then the engine just dies....

If you keep giving it gas it lives, but as soon as you let off the gas, it dies. Push the hood down so it "clicks" and it idles great again.

?!?!?!?!?!?

I must have something getting shorted, or squished, or something, but I can find anything?

What a weird one!

Something "wasnt" shorted. I had never grounded the battery to the chassis, just the block, so the hood was forcing a charge pipe to touch, which completed the circuit.

So I fixed it. runs alot better now!
