Stinking California

Post by georryan »

So I get my Cat on and take it to the exhaust shop (the guys that did the cat for me can't do it, because I have to go to a test only station. It's a California thing.)

I get flagged for haveing a modified exhuast and I don't have an EO number on me. Does anyone know if CES has an EO number? It's a number given to companies that have been certified by California as aftermarketable.

It passed just fine otherwise.

Anyone in California have any idea? Anyone outside of California?

Second thought...how about BPM? They have an identical downpipe. Maybe I can get an EO number from them.

I have no idea if Trevor (CES) has been certified by CA or not. You can try e-mailing him but he usually takes a while to answer.

That's what I was afraid of. Plus, I kind of doubt it. There isn't many subaru aftermarket parts that are certified. I'm just going to swap to my stock exhaust today and take it back tomarrow morning. It isn't a big deal, just annoying.

Passed again. With the CES and the metalcat, I had one reading that was slightly over average. All th other readings were below average. When I put in our stock exhaust, all my readings were barely showing up. I'm saying that our cars run very very clean. My readings were WAY below average.

Anyways, that's about it. That probably explains why in some states our cars can pass smog without a cat even (I wouldn't suggest it in California, though).

Good to hear that your car passed with the exhaust. I'm debating exhaust options for when I get back to Sacramento.

YEah, good luck Kidetari, make sure you keep a stock one around. I emailed Trevor from CES, and he replied, but it didn't sound like he knew anything about the Executive Order numbers (EO#) for California. Maybe he'll look into it, maybe not. We'll see.

I plan on wrangling a stock STI exhaust for swapping on for smog. I'd rather pass the first time, instead of having to do it more than once.

im going to second this... or you can make a "friend" with someone who does smog checks and will simply "overlook" the mods ;)

Haven't made those friends yet at the smog "test only" stations. :)
