EJ22T Swap - help
Hey guys, finally getting the old NA engine out of the Subee. I bought an EJ22T enging that was pulled out of a 93 turbo leg. The only problem is a lot of the car was already gone. I have pretty much everything that was bolted to the engine. But what I don't have is all of the components that were located in the engine bay. If memory serves there were a bunch of items located on the strut tower. I need everything there as well as some good picks of wire/hose connections.
Below is a list of everything that I have....
EJ22T long block
MAF
O2 Sensor
UP
DP
Turbo X-member
Wire Harness - No sensors attached - I checked
Sending unit/pump
So pretty much, I need to know whats located off of the engine that I need. Any insight on what else I need would be helpful...I have a pretty aggressive schedule for this engine implant.
Thanks!

Near the strut tower you are probably thinking of the pressure sensor, the pressure exchange solenoid valve, and the boost control solenoid. I'm not even going to try to make a comprehensive list of everything in the engine compartment you need. Legacy777 might have a list in his swap writeup. But like the guy above said, it depends on what chassis it's going in to (maybe you can use a lot of what's already there?).
Since you are in this region, you should talk to BlackBart (Frank Finan). He can supply this kind of stuff at a reasonable price and is a good guy to work with. And I love that UPS ground only takes 1 day turnaround.

Just want to second that.rallysam wrote: Since you are in this region, you should talk to BlackBart (Frank Finan). He can supply this kind of stuff at a reasonable price and is a good guy to work with.
Right know i am in the process of swapping a ej22t into an impreza, most of the parts i pickup from frank.
i might be able to help with something but the chassis are very different.
You need the fuel pump. I've actually got just the pump I can sell you, if interested. You can use your existing float and level sender.
You need the pressure exchange solenoid, pressure sensor, wastegate solenoid, turbo legacy charcoal canister & aux purge solenoid (you can rig up a n/a charcoal canister if you wanted..but you'll need a check valve in the line from the manifold.), misc tubing, and wiring.
If you can get some ECU pins, and the connectors for the boost related sensors, you can rig up a harness with relative ease.
You'll also need to swap the pos leads on the cam & crank sensors.
I have not done a writeup for the ej22t swap yet. No time, and not much ambition at the moment. I've got a thread in the electrical forum that deals with the electrical issues. Check that out.
This page has some pics of the boost related sensors.

Josh,
I have the Turbo wire harness and computer...not sure if I am going to go through with all of the hassel of trying to figure out the turbo wire harness (I read somewhere that its not too bad just to add to the NA harness). Do you mean you have to switch polarity on the cam/crank sensors if you use the NA harness only? I know it probably sounds stupid, but I can't really think of a reason to do that if I am using the turbo harness.
God I'm a noob.

They are talking about simply switching two wires. You can see what they are talking about if you look at the ECU pinout which is a sticky at the top of the Electrical forum.
I suspect that Subaru swapped the two wires simply as a fail safe way to make sure ignorant mechnics don't use the wrong ECU on the wrong car.

It would be an odd way to do it, seeing as the camshafts run half the speed as the crankshaft, but it'll gaurentee the engine won't start (definitely)rallysam wrote:They are talking about simply switching two wires. it may sputter and backfire through the intake or something...

Are you planning to swap the entire turbo legacy wiring harness into your 91?
If so, by all means keep things the way they are.
That's way too much work for what I wanted to do. I kept my N/A harness in the car, didn't mess with it. I modified the n/a engine harness so the coolant temp sensor plugs were in the right spot. I swapped the positive pins at the ECU for the cam & crank signals.
That took care of all the engine wiring. The only additional wiring I did was add pins for the turbo/boost related sensors.
It's FAR EASIER to just add the extra wires for the boost sensors, then it is to completely re-wire the entire car.
