Engine electronics?

Post by Aaron's ej22t »

does anybody have any?
i was looking to a apexi safc for $250 used. they retail at $325 new.
I don't want a standalone, cause they are too expensive. autronic is $1300, haltech is $1100......etc..
anyway, now i have a line on a HKS afr. the guy wants $270. it is brand new in the box. they retail at $400 on the hksusa.com website.
it has 11 adjustable points for fuel correction along with a idle stabilizer. it is also small, compact and easy to use/tune. should i get it?

anyone have experience?

I have an S-AFC. My only recomendation is to have a real shop tune it on a dyno and to ONLY tune the WOT.

One person had the idea that interests me. He reminded everyone that when the 02 curcuit has an error the car reverts to static maps. Well the idea is that you disable the sensor and tune based on the "limp" map. Most likely you would be leaning it out across the curve.

Although it sounds really cool I realized that the only time I want maximum power is at 90%+ throttle. Otherwise the gas saving auto tune feature works great.

well, i think an HKS SAFR is good enough for my car. i am going to buy it for $270. i also just bought autometer Boost, EGT and A/F gauges. all i have is a custom intake and custom mbc. i am getting a catless turboback exhaust the middle of january. the car should be pretty quick, even thought i am going to leave the boost at about 9.5psi. i still won't have an intercooler.

I ended up not buying it. what do you think of the unichip?
if you look in the "intercooling" forum under fmic vs. tmic, i posted my future setup that i am working towards. i honestly do not think i will need standalone.

thanks. :D

I would think teh Unichip would do quite well on this car...no OBDII garbage to deal with, bt not sure if it was ever done...if anyone has the pinouts of the ecu scanned I can get an answer today/tomorrow on it

I see no reason why it would not work off the top of my head...as long as they have the pinouts, it could be done...now how hard it is for them to do without any sort of real capital investment is another story.

I know plenty of companies in Japan have offered remapped ecu's for the Legacy BC/BF models for quite some time....I'll see what I can find out today from our suppliers in Japan.

I don't see why it wouldn't work as well.

As far as the pinouts go, ask and ye shall receive.

I can look in the 92 FSM I have to see if the ECU pinouts are different...since in 90 they didn't have a turbo available that year.

I would like to know if there is anything available for tha 96 obd2 car like the uni chip or hks safc thing. Are the latter two something like the itw torque chip or are they different?

I don't see why the unichip wouldn't work for it.....as long as it's programmed & setup for it.
