Winter rims /studs

ok, here's the deal.
I'm in Alaska, and drive a pretty much stock 92L AWD

Currently it has 14"rims on it. Just tonight I bought a set of stock black steel Subaru rims ~ 15".
I have a brand new set of BFG studded tires ~ 215/75/R15...Will these tires fit on my Sub, or will they rub. Suspension setup etc is all stock...

Hmmm. . . they seem just a little too large for the Legacy.

According to my calculations based on the assumption that you have stock 185/70-14 tires on it, adding 215/75-15's should make you have another 2 inches of sidewall. They will rub!!:shock:

Indeed. . . while I'll be the first to admit that rubbing is a GOOD thing. . . it's not a good idea for parts of your car to do it.

Yeah those tires would be rubbing everywhere, not only from being too tall but too wide as well. I would definitely get some smaller ones...

Well, as luck would have it, I got a set of tires in the freebies section in todays local paper (Anchorage Daily News)
They are BFG's 195/60-15...(Studded) Excellent shape, all 4 for $80
Now, I believe that these were originally a stock option, other than the 14" rims/tires. Surely now, using my 15" rims, and these tires, I'll not have any rubbing? I lent one up against the 14's on the car, and they're really, not much bigger....

It might rub just a tiny bit if you really hit a bump hard. The aspect ratio is right, but remember you still have 15" rims, so you have to add a little for that.

But that tire size sounds reasonable, I doubt you'll rub very much, if at all...

185/70R14
185 is the tread width in millimeters
70 stands for the percent of the width in sidewall height in mm
So to get height:
1. Multiply 2* (185 * .70) and that will give you total height in mm.
2. Now take 14 in and multiply by 25.4 to get mm.
3. Add this number to the first and you have total height.
No more wondering. For 15's just switch the step 2.

the stock tire size on the turbo models is 195/60/ on 15 inch wheels. so there you have it, it will work with no math involved.

Just a plug.....I have a set of 14" steelies with yoka guardex snow tires. They were used very intermittantly during the winter while I was in college.

I really can't even use them since I've upgraded my calipers in the front.....but I'm not sure if it'd be worth shipping.

Anyone even remotely interested in them? I could give you total mileage if interested....
