A Few Car Audio Questions

Hey All

I have a few questions about car audio:

- I have a Sony CDX-GT150 Headunit. It states a S-mosfet power of 52W x 4. Which would mean a max setup of 4 x 52W Speakers, correct? Does this mean I can't run 55W speakers or greater for that matter?

- I would idealy like to run 4 x 3-way speakers, an amp and a sub. I don't want to spend a butt-load of cash on the setup, I really just want a clean, crisp sound. Is it possible to run all 4 speakers + sub through an amp? If so what do I specs to I need to look out for on an amp that can cope with that?

- I took my drivers side door apart today and found my front speakers are 6.5"s (Clarions I think). Is it possible to fit 6 x 9's in there or would I need to carry out work to get them in there? The only screw holes that exsist are a 3 point triangle setup for 6.5"s.

The total max power output is 52W

That means ideally you'd be running 4 x 14W speakers. You could put 200W speakers in, but they wouldnt work very well.

You should always try and run speakers as close to the power level of the amp as possible, to avoid over/under powering issues. A 14W speaker is a lot louder at 14W than a 200W speaker is at 14W.

As for putting in 6x9 speakers in the doors? Lots of work. They will not bolt in.

As for your Amp question- yes there are certain amps that are made specifically for a 4+1 set-up. I would look for an amp that will put out at least 50w to each speaker and 100+ to the Sub. If you have two pre-outs, then a dual amp set-up would be better. And remember- bigger numbers don't necessarily mean better. You get what you pay for with audio equipment

Let me just get this straight. If I wanted to run 4 x Kenwood 38W speakers, to get the most out of them, I would need an amp? Otherwise they would sound pretty crap?

An average 50Wx4 (Max power)tuner should provide enough to power 4 38-W speakers for most good sound levels. If you want louder - then I would get an amp.
