Performance power at 5000' wtih the family and luggage.....

Post by douglas vincent »

Wow, elevation and weight really sucks the power down. I know, I know, its common knowledge, but unless you do it all the time, what a shocker. I am used to my "racing" and getting those nice mid 14's at the track, then I load up the family, full tank of gas, all our luggage and head up over the Cascades.

First off, I can barely accelerate in 4th, much less fifth. Switch the supercharger on and away we go, but damn, I almost thought it was broken. Much, much slower than normal. But it still worked and worked well. Once I got back in the Valley today, I could immediately feel the elevation difference (we are down about 500 or less feet).

But I did get 23 mpg....

Yup....elevation and weight zap the power. I definitely noticed the same thing on a few of my cross-country trips.

Elevation appeared to make more of a difference then weight.

Maybe that's why my car feels so damn slow...

Salt Lake City, UT -- 4300 ft
Baltimore, MD -- 80 ft

Hopefully I get a nice performance boost when I go back to Maryland come July 19.
