Hmmm. . . I should pull off my City Lights from the Vic and put some white bulbs on them for use in the STi's highbeam housings. :)

I'm coming up with tons of great ideas from you guys! :P

Hmm. . . I'd take offense to that, but it's too funny a comment!

Laurel. . . you know, we COULD install some sidemarkers on Ruby. 8)

Tasteful and totally legal ones, I mean. Instant turn signals.

How do you plan on modifying them? The optics consist both of a mask and a fluted lens.
When I grew up over the pond, it was common for us brits to drive across the channel - by boat or chunnel - and harass the poor french with our misaligned headlights.

Most automotive parts stores used to sell little covers for the headlights that would cover the offending cutoff and not glare into the oncoming drivers eyes.

So - I plan on fabricating some covers for the headlight that will remove the cutoff and give me an even flat light pattern.

This will be 1000% better than spot here and spot there that the USDM headlights have.

Besides, even in testing last night, I am sure that a porsche cayenne with its fancy headlights create more glare than my little sube.

City lights are cool, I really like this part the most.

My plan is to remove the signal, and replace with fogs - to help with the right side light loss.

Get the 92-94 side marker in the fender for extra blinkie light and safety

Make the corner light - two bulbs currently wired together, into a separate one signal one park light, and both blink when lights on.

And I will be installing the relay setup as well to power the headlights, the poor car has lots of miles on its wiring, and if I can improve the voltage, that is great.

Thoughts?

Ah, okay... yeah, people did that often in Britain and France. I believe you can accomplish the same thing with a small piece of electrical tape placed over part of the lens (you can tell which part if you look at the flutes).

Yes, it will be much better for all involved (you and other drivers) than the DOT pattern, even though you lose some of the distance seeing on the right side.
Besides, even in testing last night, I am sure that a porsche cayenne with its fancy headlights create more glare than my little sube.
I don't know what kind of lamps Porsche uses, but just having them so high off the ground causes a lot of unnecessary glare.

Yes, they are. It's good knowing that if a headlamp bulb goes out, the headlamp will still continue to provide its other function of indicating your car's location to others.
My plan is to remove the signal, and replace with fogs - to help with the right side light loss.
Well, fog lights are good things to have, but they can't really do anything about the loss of the upward rise on the right. If you think about it, a good fog light beam pattern is a lot like the ECE pattern without the upward rise. Fog lights illuminate the foreground while the upward rise illuminates things far off.

Cool. Is there room to fit in the 92-94 light, or are you going to find some aftermarket replacement?

Oh, get W5W (also called 2825) bulbs for them, too... Noticeably brighter than the stock 194.
Make the corner light - two bulbs currently wired together, into a separate one signal one park light, and both blink when lights on.
That's cool... You might want to consider making the corner lamp exclusively a turn signal with one bright single-filament bulb, though. It would be easier and your turn signal would be even clearer. The sidemarkers (especially with W5W bulbs) should be sufficient for making the car visible from the side.
And I will be installing the relay setup as well to power the headlights, the poor car has lots of miles on its wiring, and if I can improve the voltage, that is great.
Awesome.

Sounds like you'll have a great setup!

I will just pop out the full trim piece we have - hole is already there in the fender - I looked, and install the 92 side-light...

Wow! If the hole is already there, that would be a great and easy way for 90-91 owners to get at least a little bit of side visibility for their turn signals.

Front Grill

Post by bobby_oofoh »

My Black 90 Legacy Wagon looks pretty much the same... except no where near in that good of shape. Where'd you get that front grill? Or is that not available for the states either.

yeah, plastic headlights with a bad beam pattern for the 91's. The 92's had a better beam pattern that makes the headlights bright enough, but the 91's just don't put out good enough light. It's a bit frustrating. a lot of us would like to find some LHD Glass headlamps. I hear they have them in Germany and some other country.

Man, with the shorter days and more dark, I am really enjoying the extra light they are giving off.

They are better in spreading light than my BF Legacy.

I have 2 BC's and yesterday I was moving them around.

The stock one barely was able to light up my garage door, but my new JDM's lit up the door- to the cutoffs, and the whole driveway, and the houses on each side - on low beam.

I have covered over the offending cutoff area with opaque tape - it minimizes the glare.
