Turbo sound?

That spinning thing that makes all of the cool noises. OE and Aftermarket.

Turbo sound?

Post by Carbix »

Im getting this trsh - trsh sound when gunning it in my car. It sounds like its coming from the turbo? The sound is in even intervals speeding up and lowing down with the RPM. Is this a sign of anything? Should I take it in and have it looked. Its a 93 Legacy SS and only has 99,933km on it. Has been drivin by my Nana for the past 7 years. I would say about 2 times a week lol. Could the turbo be making sounds from lack of use... Should i see if it goes away. I cant hear the sound when the car starts only when trying to speed up to say "Pass some one" Oh and its an Auto

If it seem to happen at a frequency dependent on RPMs it's probably not coming from the turbocharger, because the turbo spins independently of the engine.

Driving twice a week uses the turbo plenty.

Can you make the sound happen by putting the car in gear and revving it (carefully and with the car aimed in a direction that it can safely travel if something goes wrong) while holding it still with the brakes? If you can, then you can get a friend to help you locate the sound. If you can't, then you might suspect drivetrain or suspension components.

sound is in tune with the turbo from what i can hear. Its hard to tell with the auto. All I know is at 3000 rpm when the turbo starts to spul up the sound starts at 4000 rpm it fades away. Higher then 4500 its gone.

And no i cant get it to make the sound when i brake and gas at same time. Its odd.
